this is a really stupid question

of COURSE you have to touch the paint, how else would you know for sure it was wet?

and for that matter, the plates that you need to be carefull with since they are *allegedly* hot, need to be touched also to confirm they are indeed hot

sometimes you can also smell the paint to see if it's wet. but then you end up with a spot of paint on your nose. so it all depends on whether you want wet paint on your hand or nose.
