But, here's an EV question for you. Suppose there is a 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance that god exists. All those that do not acknowledge his existence go to a burning inferno for all eternity. All those that believe live an eternity enjoying their greatest pleasures.
If there turns out to not be a God, the believers will not have a chance to be upset by this fact.
Couple this with the fact that organized religion helps people to cope with life's failures and tragedies and thus, in the long run, acknowledging the existence of God is must be +EV.
