Some people probably deserve the Death Penalty. But, the murder should be particularly heinous, and you should have the guy who did it dead to rights.
However, there is a very good, non-vengeful reason to support the Death Penalty. Deterrance. If people that would kill are afraid of death and so decide not to kill because of the Death Penalty, it is worthwhile.
