An amuzing incedent of player stupidity. Friday night, I was playing 2-5 spread limit at the Mountain High in Blackhawk, CO. Some commotion erupts at the table next to the one I was playing on. A player was standing up, yelling, obviously very upset. It turned out that the unhappy player had quads, and another player at the table had a straight flush.

This would have qualified for the bad beat jackpot except for one thing: There must be $30 in the pot. It seems that the player with the straight flush, who caught it on the turn (I'm not sure where the other player picked up the quads), called but didn't raise on both the turn and the river. He later said he didn't realize he had a straight flush.

Apparently he didn't think a straight or a flush (assuming he was aware that he had one of these) was good enough to raise. Of course, if I had had either the quads or the straight flush, I wouldn't have stopped raising until one of us was out of chips. A straight or flush should be good for at least one raise, even on a paired board. Absolutely amazing that you could have two hands that good in play and not get $30 in the pot in a 2-5 game.
