Re: What poker game should I focus on (limit HE, pot Omaha, etc.)

"... A table full of nl rocks playing only pairs and AK and yourself doing the same doesn't make for a good game..."

Lol.

I just rediscovered NL and have been playing the $100 games with just...

Re: Need something more suitable for online play than SSHE

Just swung by and noticed a few more responses.

The feedback here has just been tremendous, thank you O and friends.

And Rud, thanks for the warning about the pokerroom network. I should...

Some numbers I played with for Kelly bankrolls shortstacked ...

Those who were winning with the shortstack strategy claimed win rates between 3 and 5 PTBB/100 hands. With a standard deviation of between 18 and 21PTBB.

We'll go in the middle then, and say...

I stand well corrected.

Noted poker authorities will be found anywhere a good game is to be had.

Thoughts on this gutshot chase ...

ANTES/BLINDS
Villain posts blind ($1), somebody posts blind ($2).

Hero EP+1, dealt AcJd

PRE-FLOP
Hero bets $4, everyone folds but villain calls $3

FLOP [board cards KD,5H,QC ]
Villain...

Thanks SM ..

Yah ... I figured I might get scorched a bit. Actually, the responses have been quite reasonable, particularly considering I'm a newbie.

I thank everyone for their restraint.

I just find it a...

Times have changed, thanks Rud and friends ...

In particular:

All in all I think 10-handed hold'em is a dying beast, atleast online.

I remember sitting at a 1/2 table (Crypto site) and we were all being talkative for some reason. Half the...

Thanks gentlemen, however ...

I must be honest ... I was more concerned with post flop play in tight games than preflop charts.

It only took me a few rounds to realize that limping in with small pocket pairs from mid and late...

Need something more suitable for online play than SSHE

I did a quick search, and it appears that it is heresay to speak against SSHE. And I agree, of what few books I've read on poker ... it's one of the finest.

Even this fool can see that.

Accelerated learning: Chunking your poker education

Hey guys,

In brief: Learning poker through example is superior to learning via the fundamentals.

Not sure if this has been raised before, and I could be completely wrong, but I thought I might...

Re: SSH and tight low limit games.

Hey Gel,

GSIH
WLLH
SSH (first reading ... lots to integrate)

Gave a bit of a history in the above post to Bernie, but I tend to ramble a bit ...

Cheers!

Thanks Bernie!

Very much appreciated.

I'm making some ugly errors, misinterpreting some of the advice in SSH, so backing up a little, and relying on some old platitudes ("fit or fold" I still rather like) isn't...

Re: SSH and tight low limit games.

Hey Bernie,

Started with WLLH (2nd edition) a while back, played a little ... didn't really gel, so I turned my attention to NL.

Played around with NL, low stakes ($25-$50) for a year, flipped...

Re: SSH and tight low limit games.

Hey Sm,

Thanks. Yes, I often find myself caught between the best bonus ... and softest games.

Absolute, before they changed their bonus structure, was filled full of "bonus whores" (to use the...

SSH and tight low limit games.

Hey guys,

Quick question: Is the advice in SSH applicable to tight 2/4 games?

I'm new to limit, just started ... but from playing at Absolute, Cryptos, and even Pokerrom, I rarely see flop...

Re: SSH and Utility: The Case for the Terrible 20

I remember I had mentioned this way back in the day, but I...

Re: SSH and Utility: The Case for the Terrible 20

Hmm ...

Aside from the obvious (capping with a hand that will return fractions of your original investment, over the long term), I'm not quite sure.

Oh geez, I just noticed it.

Re: SSH and Utility: The Case for the Terrible 20

Cheers Soko,

I might still play with this sort of thing a little, but for some bizarre reason ... I'm suddenly obsessed with playing competent poker.

I blame you guys.

Thanks gentlemen,

As noted above, I've found your recommendations to ring true. Can't say whether playing 20 hands is optimal or not ... however ...

Poker is so much more interesting when you are actually playing...
