Re: poll inspired by year-end brag thread....

I guess this poll makes me feel a bit better; I'm a part of the majority. I kept hearing all these people making $xxx, xxx, and I thought I was the only loser not to be making that much.

Re: How much can I afford to pay in rent?

The thing is, in certain places, renting is the only option for some people. For instance, in the L.A. area (where I live), if you want to buy a condo, you won't find a decent one in a decent...

You don't want to wake up one morning and be old and/or have commitments, and be stuck humping some job that pays ok, but doesn't make you happy.

Re: How did you choose your career (semi-long)

I hopped into a computer programming job for a big asset-management firm in Santa Monica right after I graduated. Worst. Job. Ever. Perhaps there are people who would like a job where you...

Re: mason vs. sklansky

I think a better question is who would win in a fistfight, Mason or Sklansky? Mason's a bigger man, but Sklansky seems the scrappy type.

Re: Cards sign Encarnacion

59 runs scored on 145 hits, and 6 for 11 in base stealing kind of sums up his value, doesn't it? But between him and Pujols they'll average out to two very good players.

Re: Johnny Damon signs with Yankees

Just another example of Scott Boras working his magic. He probably started off with something absurd like 7 years for $105M, and then just gradually worked his way down to 4 years, $52M, which...

Re: Baseball Triple Crown Odds question.....

Hmm, I disagree.... 3 homers behind Sosa and 18 RBI behind Berkman (and also behind 4 others) isn't exactly miniscule.... but yea, his 30+ point lead in batting average was huge.

Well wasn't one of the main reasons Bonds's average was so high precisely because of the fact he walked 200 times?

haha.... fair enough. But my only point I was trying to make was that when you're physically able to sit and wait on pitches (roids or not), and you can lay off pitches that are outside of the zone...

Re: Baseball Triple Crown Odds question.....

Well it wasn't a fluke but.... other than the .336 he hit in 1993, the highest he'd hit in his career before 2002 was .312. Then in 2002, when the walks really started to pile up, he hit .370. ...

Re: Baseball Triple Crown Odds question.....

I thought what was happening was that Bonds would just wait for his pitch. If he didn't get it, he didn't swing at it and walked. If he did get it, he usually got a hit out of it. I don't think...

Re: Baseball Triple Crown Odds question.....

It's easier to maintain a high average if you don't have a lot of at-bats to hurt you... if you go 0-5 during a game, your average will plummet, but if you walk 3 times, you'll only be 0-2. Isn't...
