Re: set under set situations... can they be avoided?

i hope my post wasn't misconstrued as a whiny bad luck post. it's just that the losses (4 set under sets in a row, losing whole stack each time) raised the two theoretical questions:

1) are the...

set under set situations... can they be avoided?

a general subject I'd love to hear some thoughts on:

I've always played with the principle that if you flop middle or bottom set, the only thing you worry about are flush and straight draws, and...

Re: I HATE THIS SITUATION

the fact that you have position allows you to check here to keep the pot small. Two players calling a big flop raise from the pre-flop raiser suggests either strong draws or slowplays, and either...

Re: Another tricky straight hand

i agree except the following:

[ QUOTE ]
If you're going to check-call a pot bet on the flop with a gutshot, why not just bet it to begin with? Two thirds of the field have already told you they...

Re: Top pair, top kicker on the river facing an all-in.

Raise the turn and bail to a re-raise

[/ QUOTE ]

several people have suggested this play, but given the stacks I'm thinking a turn raise by Hero pretty much commits him to the pot,...

Re: Results and thoughts

[ QUOTE ]
I think the flaw in your reasoning is that you misunderstand the way the typical opponent plays. YOU would probably muck to a bet with those holdings, but I'd say most PP 100NL players...

Re: Results and thoughts

i don't think the flop c/r is a bad play either. It's a fairly safe flop against a set, and the pre flop raiser will bet here when checked to prob. 90% of the time. why not try to get an extra...

Re: I believe.. Some advice, though, follows..

question of limit vs. nl is always an interesting one. I agree that limit is often much more frustrating because of the suck-outs, and that in nl you can control your destiny more by pushing out...

Re: Should I know to fold here ?

yep QJo is just barely playable after limps in LP or the blinds. maybe good for a blind steal first-in from CU or button. from EP or MP, fold every time.

a shorthand game is a different story,...

Re: Butchered TT hand

yep that first hand is a textbook case of needing to raise the flop to define the hand and really charge the draws. You're probably ahead but more than half the deck likely changes that on the turn...

its funny, i follow the same basic pattern: win steadily and consistently for several weeks, then have a few days of terrible losses, then get back on track and start winning steadily but...

Re: Worst turn card ever

Ugh... I don't like the way this hand turned out, mostly because of your opponent. Sounds very tricky. What types of preflop raises was he calling earlier, and with what? Was he making...
