Re: first hand of single-table 10

He is betting as though he has an overpair, but in an 11, I'm less likely to believe he has AA-JJ (he's representing AA/KK) than some random holding like 44 he thinks is the nuts.

Re: Getting frustrated with the money I make

Yeah, MTT's are definitely higher variance undertakings than STT's. This is kind of why I think taking a few shots at them is a good idea for a lower-level STT player looking to move up. Higher...

Re: first hand of single-table 10

Uh... if you're going to see a flop with TT, you better not fold to all undercards without a serious read, which you probably won't have on the first hand. Also, limping rather than raising preflop...

Re: Getting frustrated with the money I make

If I'd never entered an MTT in my life, I'd be playing the 55's. As it stands, I play the 55's. If you're paying enough entry fees to MTT's to keep you from moving up levels in STT's, you have to...

Re: OT: 2 Questions for Old Hands

1) It's a random fluctuation from the gender-mean of 2+2.

2) "SFB'thing?" You mean "Drink white Russians all afternoon and pass out cold at 6:30 pm?" That's hardly a record and also I don't see...

Re: Getting frustrated with the money I make

I'm pretty sure he's not joking. The utility on a $3k MTT score is worth the risk. Think of utility this way. Say the lottery pays $1000 on a $1 ticket. The probability of winning is 1/2000. ...

Re: Action with Jacks an\' I\'m confused at the $109s

[ QUOTE ]
However, talk seems to be dying. I folded, hating it. SB had 99 and caller(MP1?) had KTo. They got it all-in on the turn. And I was afraid of the $109s!

Re: Action with Jacks an\' I\'m confused at the $109s

Two people cold-call your reraise behind and then one of them bets out on a ragged flop and gets called. There's no way your hand is good. Not a chance... none.

Re: First time I thought about laying down Kings preflop

Wow, 6/4 is tight even for a 10-tabler. It probably means he's not making a lot of fancy plays early on... Still, this seems like the extreme case (no read on the raiser, super-tight reraiser) and I...

Re: First time I thought about laying down Kings preflop

I would not open-raise 99 in level 2 there. In this situation, a player has opened for a typical raise and gotten a smallish reraise from a player we can safely label as "good." Everybody so far...

Sorry. That wasn't meant to be as bad as it sounds. I just had one of those nights last night where I was thinking "This is the worst thing that could ever happen... etc. etc." and then realized...

Re: First time I thought about laying down Kings preflop

99 is something like a 61% favorite against a top-35% range. A 61% favorite is good enough for me to take all the way at any stage of the tournament and anyone who suggests otherwise is either a...

Re: First time I thought about laying down Kings preflop

In quasi's shoes, a player (AAAMAN in this case) with 70% VPIP and 35% PFR is just asking to be isolated. 99 and AJs are both good enough for me to play for all my chips at any point against the top...

Re: First time I thought about laying down Kings preflop

I'd say the raiser's range really depends on AAAMAN's profile so far. Against a super-LAG, my reraising range could be as loose as AJs+,AQo+,99+. KK plays pretty well against that. On the other...

Re: First time I thought about laying down Kings preflop

It's fine to think this, but it's probably a bad idea to actually fold. It could just as easily be QQ.

Re: clarkmeistering the turn?

A call can really mean anything on that flop, and I can't say I fault anyone for wanting to check/fold the turn rather than bet/fold. I think the turn bet/fold is a better line with the fourth flush...
