Re: JV raised a great point...

You may be right about Tommy receiving grief. But he does get a lot of leeway on hands where he plays passively when out of position, e.g., not raising with AK from the blinds. Again, I am a big...

I said no one, but I forgot about Turning Stone Pro. He would have trashed it.

Re: JV raised a great point...

The funny thing is, if Tommy Angelo had posted a hand where he just completed with QQ in the sb, no one would have dismissed it as bad play. They would have wanted an explanation for this...

Re: Raising from the blinds--why do the experts disagree?

This is not an "it depends" question. If two successful mid limit or higher hold'em players disagree on whether you should raise from the sb with JJ after 4 typical mid-limit players limp in, then...

Re: Raising from the blinds--why do the experts disagree?

I have yet to play in a mid-limit (40-80 or below) game where the hands Miller recommends raising with would not have a pot equity edge against limpers. I'm not saying they don't exist, but in the...

Humor me here, what about the rare times it does happen?

Re: Raising from the blinds--why do the experts disagree?

If you don't want to take the time to discuss this because it has already been covered thoroughly in the past, that's cool. I only posted the question because WLLH 3rd ed. just came out,...

Re: Raising from the blinds--why do the experts disagree?

I thought it might be a good idea to add the rest of the probabilities that a higher card will flop when you hold a pocket pair:

KK 23%
QQ 43%
JJ 59%
TT 71%
99 81%
88 88%
77 93%
66 ...

Raising from the blinds--why do the experts disagree?

In the pre-flop recommendations in Small Stakes Hold'em, Ed Miller recommends raising from the blinds with AA-99, AKs-ATs, KQs-KJs, and AK-AQ. It seems obvious to me that all of these hands have...

When do you wait for the turn to raise?

People on these forums seem to advocate waiting for the turn to raise far less than HPFAP. When, if ever, should you call on the flop with the intention of raising the turn?

Waiting for the turn with AK

In this hand I decided to wait until the turn, hoping to raise if a safe card came off. Mistake? What about the fold on the river?

KK when Ace hits the turn

I don't really like how I played this hand. I didn't want to give a free card on the turn in case MP1 had a flush draw, plus, he seemed like a typical Party player, so I thought there was a good...

Re: Short stack play in the Party NL 2000

Nice post cero. One question though, would any other reasonable strategy that could win in this game require less thought?

Ed Miller, please read this thread

No one is answering the question. I asked how much one could expect to make buying in for $500 in the Party NL $2000, using the basic strategy outlined in Getting Started in Hold'em. I have no...

Re: Short stack play in the Party NL 2000

I don't really care if I am "playing poker" as you define it or not. What matters is whether playing a small stack makes money. I don't claim to be an expert no-limit player, which is why I am...

Short stack play in the Party NL 2000

Hand from book, what if it happened on Party?

You are in the sb with Ac 9c. It is folded to the cutoff, who is loose pre-flop, but...
