Re: Do most home tourneys take a small cut for food/bev costs?

Tell him to do it. I'd just let everybody know what they are paying for (pizza, chips, wings, etc.).

Re: S&P removing Delta (DAL) from SP500 & SP100

and some you guys didn't think the S&P Index is "actively" managed.

There is some value in non-index funds (if for no other reason, they've probably avoided airline stocks).

Re: ING Mutual Funds

[ QUOTE ]

So the new question is...is it still advisable to fill up the IRA over adding to the S&P index even if I may want to cash it out in say 5-10 years?[ QUOTE ]

Re: Need help buying chips - how many?

If they do not have denominations on them, i'd not use more than 3 at a time (or 4 very sparingly). 4 chip colors can work, but 5 and/or 6 is way too many to have in play at one time for a...

Re: Some confusion about bonds / CD\'s

the yield curve is fairly flat right now. Short term rates are rising and long term rates haven't done too much (just look at mortgage rates).

I would not advise going too long with your bond...

Re: Need help buying chips - how many?

I concur. Longer levels will help in that you don't have to always worry about having those low value chips in play

Heck, you could go with 1st round at 10/10 and forget the nickel chip all...

Re: Need help buying chips - how many?

Since the lowest denomination chip is usually for the small blind, I recommend not buy quite as many of the lowest denomination chip for tournament poker. It seems the 2nd lowest (usually equal to 1...

Try to keep the same number of players at each table at all times. Do not let them get out of balance by more than 2 players. When they do get out of balance by 2 players, move 1 player from the...

Re: How do you keep track of buy-ins?

I second the idea of having only one person manage the money and chips.

Another idea might be to write things down.

Re: How to handle re-buys

I'd make them rebuy immediately and blind them off if they wanted to take a smoke break.

Most tourney's stop all re-buys after a set amount of time.

I prefer add-ons instead of re-buys. ...

Re: Chips distribution help.

Because you've got so many $1 chips, you can give every player 100 in chips and start the blinds at:
1-1
1-2
2-4
3-5
etc.

Then again, if you're only playing 7-8 you could just go with 1000 in...

Sure, go ahead and invest for growth inside your 401(k)and other long-term accounts. ...

Re: Why Mutual Funds are better than Index Funds

Re: I need a Set of poker chips

The main thing is to make your first set an inexpensive set of chips. (Faux clay, metal inserts, used, etc.)

You can get 500 chips for under $50 from a lot of places.
