Re: 55 - Party 15/30 - All decisions bad?

I basically agree with Stox in this thread. The turn will go check-check a good chunk of the time, and you will get a cheap showdown.

However, this got me to thinking about the fact that when I...

Re: best beginner chess books and developing chess books

I second the comment about the Seirawan books (especially Winning Chess Strategies), and it's never too early to start plowing through tactics exercises. My favorite ones are the Livshitz books (I...

Re: Question about SK hand rankings

I remember there was a guy who tried to do this about a year ago. It was on the poker theory forums, but I can't seem to find it right now. As far as I remember, he didn't even finish it for the case...

Re: Question about SK hand rankings

Sure. You could use some kind of ICM evaluation instead. It wouldn't be even be that hard.

But I'm kind of skeptical of the value. Chances are that your opponent's estimates of your hand range are...

Re: Question about SK hand rankings

It sure looks like you have it exactly right, except I set up the problem with blinds of 1 and 2 instead of 1/2 and 1. Multiplying 477 by 2 gives 954, which is basically the value listed.
I think...

Re: Calling the flop checkraise - very common situation

>>How often do you just check behind on the flop? Is the answer 0%?

No, it's not zero. I will check behind occasionally. Yes, always betting is probably exploitable.
However, the further away I...

Exploitable Strategies and Multi-Tabling

It seems obvious that there are many strategies in holdem that are extremely profitable against opponents that do not adjust, but absolutely terrible against opponents that do not find the proper...

Calling the flop checkraise - very common situation

Party 15-30.

I raise first in from the button with K/images/graemlins/heart.gif8/images/graemlins/heart.gif. BB calls.

Flop A /images/graemlins/spade.gif 9 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 3...

Re: Success rate for check raises on the turn

These are fun stats to play with, but probably won't be particularly useful by themselves. Once you take into account preflop and flop action, and perhaps board cards, now you can start making some...

Re: 3 handed 22

If it really is dead even according to ICM then the fact that you have the button next hand (3-handed) should push you to fold.

I originally thought the answer to this problem would be to call...

Re: The Poker-Eval Library...

I did compile pokersource under MSVC++, but this was a very long time ago and I don't remember exactly what I had to do. I don't think it took me a ridiculous amount of time or C expertise though.

Re: anyone have exerience with openoffice.org

I have it and while I have never had any serious problems, it's not quite as comfortable as MS office, and it's missing some features. If you're constantly working in Excel and need to be able to use...

Re: favorite probability problems

fnord had it right - you can do better by letting N/e of the prizes go by and then picking the first one that's better than any of the others. In fact, N/e is optimal for the strategies of that type....

Re: favorite probability problems

Yeah, this is a good one. I always knew it as the "best prize problem" or the "most beatiful woman" problem. (prizes/women are being displayed to you and you have to pick the best one).

Re: what to do with top two?

I don't have all that much of a problem with checking, but I think you're completely underestimating how often he will checkraise the turn with a worse hand.

Re: what to do with top two?

Come on Dynasty, this isn't a 3-6 game where he's being called with QJ because there's a backdoor straight draw.

Nevertheless, I think you have to bet. It seems that he's about equally likely to...

Re: Another Marked Cards Hypothetical Question

Right, so I was assuming that while I don't catch on to the fact that he knows I know his cards, I can catch on to the fact that he keeps going 5 bets with QQ on an AK6 board.

I think that your...

Re: Another Marked Cards Hypothetical Question

Geez. Not even one taker?

I'll bite.

A) Something ridiculous. 100 BB/hr seems in the right ballpark.

B) I should still be able to save or gain a bet once every hand or two, no? I'll go with...

I got a new laptop recently and installed party. However, something seems to be getting screwed up with the window sizes. There's a large border of white around the lobby window, and a large...

Re: Bluffing Best or Worst Folding Hands?.

Since A has the option to check, his non-worst hands have some chance to win if he doesn't bluff - hence the "bluff with your worst hands" type of solution common to these types of problems.
