Re: How much would you be willing to pay if you were a newbie?

I would make it pretty cheap and then offer the takers a more in depth course for significantly more money. If your intro course is any good, I think you'll probably be able to hook a lot of them...

Re: more evidence of the poker boom - scary

My friends and I used to play at sleepovers when I was 11 or 12 (I'm 36 now). Sometimes we'd just play for fun and sometimes we'd play for a small amount of real money. I don't think kids playing...

Re: what\'s more annoying?

You should have added a "personal conversations" option such as "Jim, I'll meet you in the bar at 7:00." "Okay, but I'll be there around 6:00, but I'll just have a drink or two while I wait for you....

Re: Card Player Looking Over the Wrong Shoulder

I actually know ONE person (a pretty serious amateur) who is a paid subscriber. He doesn't make it to the B&Ms every month and he wants to get every issue. He's just one of those guys that can't...

Re: DVD Movie Review: \"HIGH ROLLER: The Stu Ungar Story\" ****

I disagree. The half-assed "Meet Joe Black" thing was not great. But I think they did a pretty good job of portraying a brilliant man who was a true addict in every sense of the word. It was a...

Re: Government involved in Poker

In my humble opinion, I don't think this is anything to worry about. It's probably just hot air from a politician looking for issues that might get his name in the paper for a day. But even if the...

Re: Another poker wunderkind

I think if I even suggested to my father that I was dropping out of school to play cards and that I needed his credit card so I could fuel my NetTeller account he'd beat me to within an inch of my...

Re: Government involved in Poker

I'm not sure, but I don't think we're talking about a tax on "poker related income." All income from a televised poker tournament is already subject to tax. Everything the players, casinos and...

Re: File your Poker Winnings? part 2

I don't know what percentage of the population gets audited, but I do know that the vast majority of recent audits has been on high net worth individuals and small business owners because they are...

Re: File your Poker Winnings?

I think the main reason to report your net losses for the year is that you can carry gambling losses forward to future years. I think they expire in a few years and there may be a limit to the...

Re: Probably Not as high as you all think

Someone told me that they had increased the minimum possible score. It used to be 200/200. So, if you miss every question, you would get a 400 overall score. What I've been told is that this...

You make a good (semi-serious) point. It seems like there are people who joined in '05 who have as many posts as you do.

Also, some of the posts I've read lately make think that the moderators...

Re: poker pro to trading

This is undoubtably an idiotic question, but why would anyone prefer trading for a firm to trading just for themselves? I guess I could see how capital issues could become a problem for...

Re: poker pro to trading

Of course my advice isn't helpful, I don't know what I'm talking about. BTW, Wachtell is a firm "like Cravath or Sully."

My advice about trading is a sort of "informed conjecture." I know a lot...

Re: poker pro to trading

First, I'll concede that a lot of people who really know what they're talking about would choose a firm like Cravath or Sullivan & Cromwell as the best of the best. Despite what I said in my posts,...

Re: Daniel Negreanu - not an O+A fan

I am SHOCKED that WHFS switched to a Spanish format. I grew up in NoVa and HFS was one of my favorite stations. I'm astounded that their old format failed. I must really be getting old.

Re: Daniel Negreanu - not an O+A fan

I agree. O&A used to be on in New York in the afternoon and I thought they were hysterical. I haven't heard them for years though. Ron & Fez also very funny.
