Re: Wealth creation in zero sum games
I hate to be harsh here Matt, but your logic is downright terrible. Poker will never be zero-sum because there is friction within the system. That friction has to do with dealing and fair-play,...

Party 30/60 no limpers sb play
Has anybody else noticed the trend in 30/60 for the sb to raise with ANYTHING when there's no limpers? When I'm the big blind I tend to take advantage of position and 3 bet any non-garbage hand. ...

Poker starting age? (For my dog)
I have a beautiful 3 year old dog (21 dog years) named Snoopy. He's very intelligent, though I don't know if his IQ is over 90. I'm considering teaching him poker. He would do this for 4-6 hours a...

Re: Managing a windfall
Contrary to popular belief, renting is not really a waste. The rental rate is simply the user cost of capital. All that money you spend on the house payments can be invested to earn back that...

With regards to stock market vs. real estate investing:
I think that if you put enough time and effort into either style of investing you can earn yourself a decent payoff. If you do real estate,...

Re: Break or keep going
Take a break, man. There's no point getting all worked up about this game. It'll always be here. Go play some piano. Or smoke some hash. You can't go wrong with hash, man.
Just kidding about...

Life after poker
Well, about a week ago I posted about my addiction. I received some responses and gave it some serious though. I also went on a magnificent 300 BB losing streak (this is approximately 1/3 of my...

Re: Addiction and happiness EV
I hardly think I'm "expert". I can beat the ludicrous online games but against pros (especially in NL), I'm sure I'd get owned. I say this in defense of trying to have a life beyond poker.
I'm...

Re: Addiction and happiness EV
Actually, I chose my wording carefully. I don't think I took a .5 GPA hit due to poker, I think if I could somehow use all the hours that I spend on poker in school, I would have a .5 higher GPA. ...

Judging by your posts, it's you with the narcissism, not me. Trust me, my post was no gloat. It was a public assessment of what I think of my gambling. I don't often see poker addressed in terms...

Flopped Straight with 2 suits
I posted one off the button with T /images/graemlins/club.gif9 /images/graemlins/heart.gif in a loose, typical 5/10 pacific poker game. 5 limp to me. I check, sb calls, bb checks.
7 to the flop...

Pt. Edwards 5/10
The town is Sarnia. The casino is Pt. Edwards.
The players are awful as usual.
One player named Lulu has taken to calling me "loosey" since I'm tight. He is two to my left and raises my big...

QQ in $50 NL... evaluate my play.
I'm 2 off the button in a normal, super loose $50 party game with a stack of about 60. I'm dealt QQ and raise to 5. The guy to my left calls, so does the button. The SB has about 16 and pushes all...

Ultimate bet, 2-4. I'm in the small blind with K5o. 3 limpers. I complete. Big blind checks.
Flop: K 5 5.
I check, remembering that Sklansky/Malmuth said that a good time to slowplay is...

River: I checkfold.
