Re: table talk

Sure pros go for every edge they can. Otherwise they wouldn't survive at that high level of competition. But this observation is actually an argument against acting like a jerk to put someone on...

Re: table talk

I suppose character, ethics, karma and feeling good about what you are doing are out of bounds in this discussion?

Unlike a vocal minority of poker players I don't get any pleasure from berating...

Re: TPMK type hands HU

From PokerStove:

Board: Ac 9d 6h
equity(%)win(%) tie(%)
Hand 1: 54.5% 48.32% 06.15% { ATo }
Hand 2: 45.5% 39.39% 06.15% { AA, A2s+, A2o+ }

So if your only assumption is that...

Excession, I was really enjoying it but it stopped at about 5 min for me as well. Exact same place "aggression frequency is 50" then nada. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: EV of medium pp vs 2 or 3 callers

[ QUOTE ]
You want 1-2 or 5+ callers.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would have tended to agree with this, but now I'm not so sure after running pokerstove.

If you plug in limper with top 50% of hands, you...

Re: Modeling hand distributions from shown-down hands

Returning to your original question -

For NL at least, if you had an infinitely large database of hands on a player who played the same preflop hand range throughout, you could determine this hand...

Re: Mason\'s article on bunching

Mason, while the concept is a useful one and I appreciate you pointing it out to me (I had never thought of it that way) your guestimate as to what it does for your odds is off, at least in your...

Re: Party - Avg. MGR per table per hour for various limits?

Interesting - it looks like for full table play MGR/TH = sb+bb (approx.)

1/2 = $3'ish/TH, 2/4 = 6, 3/6 = 9, 5/10=15.

If true, it is a remarkably convenient mnemonic.

Re: Theory: Gigabet\'s \"bands\" and \"The Finch Formula\" Grand Unificati

[ QUOTE ]

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, my math is rusty, but if S = Q then surely you are taking the log of zero, which is undefined? It seems you are missing a closing bracket in the...

Re: Overpair vs Possible Set Game Theory Question

How is EP getting 1200/900? There is now 200 in the pot, EP has 956 left after his 44 call, and MP has 856 left after his 44+100 bets. If EP pushes, he is putting in his remaining 956 to win the...

Re: formula for calculating equity for hands more than 8 outs on the turn

And you can make it even easier, since that formula simplifies to:

Let Y = # of outs
Then
4Y - (Y - 8) =
= 4Y - Y + 8
= 3Y + 8

So 15 outs = (3 * 15) + 8 = 53%
9 outs = (3 * 9) + 8 = 35%

Re: We need a new word for \"gambling\"

Actually the Google definition answered the question of why poker is called gambling and investing in stocks isn't.

We use the term gambling for making a wager on a GAME or CONTEST, not because...

Re: Heads up Theory

Jman, you are correct that the fundamental reality is that for a particular action you will win X chips x% of the time, and lose Y chips y% of the time.

In most poker situations we can predict...

Re: Why Compete With Poker Tracker?

Nice program, but please add some kind of SNG support. More than 1/2 of my play is with SNG's and MTT's, so obviously I would have to stick with PT if PM didn't support these games.

Re: Can YOU get away from this hand?

I am curious -- I estimated that in this particular situation (2nd hour or $150MTT, 50/100, ave. stack 2400t, 300t raise called by a tight player (14% vpip), a semi-tight player (18%), and a loose...

Re: Can YOU get away from this hand?

No one has recommended check-fold here. It would be hard to have the discipline to do, but I'm guessing it would be the most EV+ play.

I would estimate that in this particular situation (3bb...

I went out 59th, pretty good by my current standards. Busted when my JJ caught QQ. Great run while it lasted though.
