Re: The paradox of making money from opponents mistakes

His error is putting 2 bets into the pot when he could've checked and put 0 bets into the pot. What you have done by c/ring him is to magnify the effect of his initial mistake. However, he is...

Well, OK...mixing in NL games in rotation is a completely different animal.

Re: Interesting Phil Ivey quote

In $4k/8k, $1m would be 125 big bets. That is an unbelievably brutal beating. It's a bankroll buster. I've never lost 125 BB in a session in any limit I've ever played, and I have had some...

Re: Why is only Hold Em NL?

7-stud has the additional problem of having 5 betting rounds, and that is thought by most to be problematic with a big-bet format. There's a variant called "Mississippi" that combines the last two...

Re: 200/400 bellagio AQo

[ QUOTE ]
Granted, there may be reasons to 4 bet but those reasons I suggest wouldn't include 'for value'.

[/ QUOTE ]

Such as not being able to put me on AA-KK-AK when I 4-bet? Of course,...

Re: Why do we fold QTo from UTG?

Actually, hot-cold numbers can help us compare hands to each other, and they can also tell us whether a hand benefits or is hurt by multi-way action. You're right that we should apply some caution...

Re: Hidden Outs

If this hand is even profitable (not convinced), you're definitely not giving up much if you let this go on the flop.

A three-straight doesn't count for anything unless it at least has a chance to...

Re: A high vs fish

The problem with betting here is that the fish is not likely to fold a hand that is better than yours. That's why they're a fish.

Re: Sklansky\'s Small Stakes Holdem

I'll add that if you're dominated, you can "call for help" by making a flush if your cards are suited. If you're unsuited. . . .well, you're just hosed.

Being suited doesn't make a huge...

Re: Why do we fold QTo from UTG?

You might argue that in such a tight game, open-raising UTG with T9s becomes a blind steal, in which case the added equity from people letting you have the blinds makes this a profitable play after...

Re: Why do we fold QTo from UTG?

OK, I think we might be coming from the same place. Taking the worst of it to improve your image is definitely called for in some places. Just keep in mind the cost. There might be ways to do so...

Re: Why do we fold QTo from UTG?

Position (both relative and absolute) modifies the value of a hand significantly. A hand that would definitely be profitable on the button is not profitable up front for that reason.

The source...

Re: party 30/60 top set butchered

Wait--I thought the flop was capped.

And you forget about the overriding concern, as well--with a huge hand and a huge draw but no way to price out the draws, might as well get as much money into...

Re: Pot Equity

Equity = chance your hand has of winning * amount in the pot

If the equity > the cost of an action, then you can profitably take that action based upon the money in the pot.

Equity doesn't take...

Re: was i too aggressive with these kings?

I appreciate the thought you put into this post, but I think you're being too conservative in discounting AQ. Even if the possibilities are just AQ/QQ/AA/KK, that's still 12.5:9.5, which is a 57%...

Re: why is limping so bad?

I'll take the counter side:

- Open-raising kills certain types of games. People tighten up, and get defensive. However, the same players will loosen up to limps in front of them, and they will...

Re: Limp-folding

[ QUOTE ]
I usually fold AJo UTG at a full table, am I playing too tightly?

Plus, I may even fold AQo UTG. But always raise when I decide to play either.

Will call 1 bet if raised tho'

I\'m beginning to wonder why I should bother.

The nearby 12-24 game in a live cardroom is better than most Party 2-4s. Think: 4+ VPIP 35s. Though the capital risk is higher with 12-24, I find it easier and more pleasant to play in that game...

Re: ATs in BB. 3 bet, call/lead or check/raise? $2 $4

Fairly standard; flop 3-bet may also work. Few people like to pay two bets on a weak hand at any time. I think it's six one way, half-dozen the other.

Re: who hates limping?

These are my rules for limping in limit:

1. When a game that is otherwise good but a little bit tight. Open-raising often tightens up games. When this has happened, you can usually loosen them...

Re: Limp-folding

[ QUOTE ]
If the table is weak-tight, limping isn't going to get too much action in the first place. Besides the fact that open-limping is generally pretty weak, I would rather encourage less action...

UTG was all-in, so a 3-bet was not a possibility.

Re: Limp-folding

OK, you probably have learned from this thread that folding for one bet after you have limped is a bad idea. You'll still need to be careful. 3% is 40 hands. This is AA-JJ and AK, roughly. Since...
