Re: My Reason and Phillips Poll

I don't know PP personally, of course, but as a regular reader of his blog I have some vague idea of his personality. If he ever posted here again, poll or no poll, I would be shocked. That guy's...

Any hotel recs for AC?

I'm making my first visit to Atlantic City next weekend. I'd like to stay somewhere that is decent/clean/safe, but also reasonably priced. I'm past the age where I can sleep in dicey hotels, and I'm...

First trip to AC

I will be making my first trip to Atlantic City in about a week (I'm usually a Vegas visitor, living in the West as I do). I will be looking to play some low-limit stud (hi or hi/lo).

You AC...

Re: Newbie Stud Hands

I agree with what was said above. Neither of these hands can stand the kind of heat they're seeing on 3rd. They're marginal/situational hands. Dump 'em on 3rd and save yourself the bets.

HORSE recently?

Heard earlier this summer that the MGM was spreading a semi-regular HORSE/mix game at low limits. Anyone played in this recently, or know the MGM's policy on when this gets spread (or if it's just...

Stud games at Commerce or Bike?

I'm sure both places spread a game (since I hear both these places are mecca for poker), but does anyone happen to know what limits they regularly spread for stud and stud 8 at these two places?

Re: MGM HORSE

If MGM spread this game regularly (up to 5-10), I would never play anywhere else in Vegas when I came. That says a lot of nice things about the management of that room that they'd spread a low-limit...

Re: Stud in Vegas

Every time I've been in recent months, both the Mirage and the Excal regularly spread a 1-5 game. Neither has an ante, so the play is very tight (unless you happen upon a lucky table). But it's there.

Re: 2/4 party hand.

Well, you'd be making a huge mistake to fold to a raise on the river with the pot being this size. Huge. If you were so worried that he might have you beaten, you could check and call the river. But...

Re: CA casino question

The smell of noodles, kimchi, and sesame oil are no problem. I cook a lot of Asian cuisine, so I like it. I'd take that over smoke 1000%.

Re: Will SSAP suit me?

Theory of Poker has good, applicable advice for all areas of poker. It's a must-read.

In fact, I think TOP is actually pretty stud-centric. When it was published, HE was not the phenomenon it is...

Re: CA casino question

This is great to hear. The thought of being able to play poker in a B&M location (other than a friend's home) and not have to breathe in second-hand smoke is fantastic news. Even though most of the...

CA casino question

Given the fact that California has the strictest non-smoking rules on Planet Earth, I am curious if these extend to the casinos (such as the Bike, Commerce, etc.). I am planning a CA trip this fall...

Gamesgrid for Stud

Has anyone here on the stud forum played any poker on Gamesgrid? And, if so, has anyone played any stud there (assuming they have enough traffic to get regular games going on any non-HE game)? If...

The Amazing Republicat

I play most of my stud on Party -- now that I figured out that playing the 1-2 or 3-6 games tends to somewhat negate the terrifying disproportionate ante structure at .5-1.

Anyway, there is a guy...

Re: Wow the party .5/1 is almost unplayable

After not playing stud on Party for a long time (I play 1-2 mostly) because I thought the ante structure was ridiculous, I finally realized that the games at Party were SO juicy that I had to just...

Re: Beginner\'s Luck at Party?

They're pretty bad, but you are definitely just on a hot run right now. I don't think anyone would argue that 18 or so BB per 100 hands isn't really a sustainable win rate on this planet (or any...

Folks:

In my efforts to try and improve my stud game, I was wondering if any experienced folks on the forum ever dabble in hand history evaluation. I, of course, see hand histories posted to the...

I have the impression that TS is an experienced poker player who has read a book or three, so I don't think he should have any trouble understanding 7CS4AP. I think that if someone has a...

And yes...stud is dying...outside of LA, Vegas, atlantic City, or Foxwoods, it is almost impossible to find anything other than 1-5 spread limit (or other similar low limit games). Since...

Re: 4th street percentage?

Very helpful post. Thank you.

I'd heard mixed things about the Sklansky book, but I'll pick it up based on your recommendation. I only play at lower limits right now -- is the 7CS4AP text relevant...

4th street percentage?

Folks:

I'm just learning to play stud (or at least learning to play it correctly) and am curious if you more experienced hands could advise a newer player on how tight is right.

In hold 'em,...

Low limit stud in Vegas -- still exist?

Has anyone had a verified siting of a low limit (like 1-5) 7-stud game in Vegas recently? I've contact several card rooms that SAY they spread this on their website, but a follow-up e-mail always...
