Where do the terms \"Flop\", \"Turn\", \"River\" come from?

Anybody know? It seems like "Flop" kind of makes sense but I wonder why 4th street is called the "turn" and 5th street the "river".

Re: Where do the terms \"Flop\", \"Turn\", \"River\" come from?

Yeah, ya know I heard that explanation before but I think it might just be folklore.

Anyone else have an idea where FTR comes from?

Where do the terms \"Flop\", \"Turn\", \"River\" come from?

Anybody know? I can see "flop" since your flopping 3 cards over, but what do "turn" and "river" mean?

Re: KK4-type hands Stud/8

Borders had Zee's book in stock. That's where I bought it.

I play these hands the same way as you. I am wondering if there is a better way to play them tho.

KK4-type hands Stud/8

OK so I got Zee's book and he talks a lot about playing high hands. However, if I get a hand like KK4, even if the KK is hidden, I have zero confidence in playing these hands. In the low limit games...

How often should you see 4th street in Stud Hi Lo?

My Stars stats show that I saw 4th street 28% of the hands (1500 hands) in low limit Stud Hi-Lo. Is this about right?

Re: Basic Stud Hi/Lo starting hand question

Thanks again Andy!

Until I can find Zee's book, are there any good online resources other than this excellent forum for basic Stud Hi/Lo strategy?

Re: Basic Stud Hi/Lo starting hand question

Thanks for your response. Does the rank of your 3-card eights make the decision for you? For example, would you play 236 but not 238?

Also, I am assuming A2K is a crap hand. Is this right, or is...

Basic Stud Hi/Lo starting hand question

Been playing a little low-limit Stud Hi-Lo at Stars, and I am wondering what are considered "playable" high starting hands. What about hands like AKQ 3 suits, or KK4, or AA4, or QQJ, or any 3 of the...

Re: two simple situations

A push may be the best play. I was planning to push had he folded/called/2-3X BB raised. But it seems a 5XBB raise is usually mid pocket pairs, and I didn't want to put my whole tournament onto a...

Yep. Search function sucks. However, I ran your google search and several of the hits were not from the STT forum. So, your "one-table" parameter is not working.

Re: My new move: The Turn Check Raise

Excellent analysis by everyone. I sometimes use the "bet-check-raise" when I have a good hand and can remember to do it. It is very effective. As Sam pointed out, checking after betting screams...

Re: Trust your feelings, Luke/sanity check

I agree with Scuba here. I wouldn't be too worried about the flush draw on the flop which hit on the turn since you are heads up. So the only thing I am concerned about is a bigger T, which is...
