Re: OK to give address like this?

[ QUOTE ]
The Satellite Club is a private event space, hence its all on the up and up. Good point though Randy, thankfully this time it's ok. Now if they were hosting poker games there.. different...

OK to give address like this?

Wish I could be there - alas I'll be in the middle of moving that weekend.

Also, just wanted to check - given recent events in the NYC area, I would have thought the club wouldn't want their...

Re: Big stack goes all in against my QQ

Knowing this player, and having in fact witnessed the particular hand, I now think the following:

He doesn't have AA, because with that hand he would rather have trapped you on the flop than take...

Re: Matt Matros\'s book

Hey, I liked Feeney's book! He doesn't write exciting, action-laden prose. And he doesn't play no-limit. He has no big stories to tell about how he went to this tournament or that. But his ideas on...

One of the few poker books I\'ve thrown away

Just shows how tastes differ. To me, it was poorly written, boring, and unenlightening. I thought it likely that it only got published because poker is such a hot topic at the moment.

To compare...

\"Two More Hands\"

I enjoyed this article quite a bit - mostly because although a ton of stuff has been written about no-limit, anything that Mason Malmuth writes is guaranteed to have a fresh perspective. I'm hoping...

Re: Help!

I don't think I saw this mentioned - why not play just short-handed for a few months? Just as in hold'em, it would force you to make adjustments for thin value and extra agression & get you out of...

Re: I\'ll twist your nose, sir

This guy Beer truly hates you by now. And he hates me, too, even though I don't think he knows anything about me other than that I'm associated with you. Can I divorce you as my co-author on the...

You presumptuous fool

Why do you insist on flaunting what you call your "knowledge" of stud? You are abusing this forum as a mirror for your vanity! And yet didn't you admit to me recently that if you had a housecat, it...

Re: An invitation to 2+2ers

Big difference: You do your work prior to publication; our book has already been published. Knowing Carl as I do, I can say that he is very proud of his first book and is genuinely curious as to what...

Re: Skimming The Pocket Idiot\'s Guide to Texas Hold\'em

It's always possible to unintentionally irritate someone you write about - but on the whole, Cooke's columns strike me as humanistic and sympathetic, not nasty and vengeful. Here's my review of both...

Re: Skimming The Pocket Idiot\'s Guide to Texas Hold\'em

Hmm. Rereading Amazon's page for "The Cooke Collection" with a bit less of my usual attention deficit, it appears you're right. The book "ships in 1 to 2 days," yeah - but at phenomenal cost. A...

does this book, come with a starting chart for preflop for early, middle, late, small blinds and big blinds positions?

[/ QUOTE ]

It comes with a simplified chart of hand groups. It...

uuDevil, thanks for taking the time to look at the book and post your thoughts.

I haven't even seen a copy yet myself - Carl got the promotional copies from the publisher and is going to be...

Re: Were these laydowns good or weak?

With Hand 1, I don't like your flop raise - > turn call -> river fold. You had to know the chances of overcards coming were very likely--what was your contingency plan? At any rate it makes no sense...

Re: My play of QQ questioned in B&M

You are approaching this subject the wrong way.

[/ QUOTE ]

StellarWind has it right here. Playing QQ very hard on a small flop might be right versus one kind of opponent, wrong...

Re: My real trouble

As a suggestion: To become a better hold'em player, learn to play another form of poker equally well. For example, you could learn stud or stud hi-lo. It's like cross-training---your hold'em game...

Re: I think my biggest leak is...

Hmm. The technical stuff Ed is talking about is invaluable--but I've always felt (and observed) that non-technical leaks are at least as dangerous for studious recreational players.

Someone may...

Re: Aces miss a bet?

I think there are too many other possibilities here to be overly scared of a set of Kings on the river.

Preflop, he might have felt you had AQs or AK or some such; or that you were raising with...

Re: Gargle and then speak up, Joe

It's no joke. For this particular game Carl was in---yes, you'd still much rather have position, but it wasn't as big a factor as it would be in a more aggressive game.

Re: Hand thats been bugging me, Borgata 3/6

I'm not talking about raising to get information. I'm talking about getting to see the other guy's hand. Totally different subject.

Re: Hand thats been bugging me, Borgata 3/6

You've GOT to call down here, no matter whether you should have been aggro on the turn or not. It's limit poker---the cost isn't that dear---and there is an additional benefit besides the chance of...

Re: Another torpedo to sink Joe\'s boat

When you get a chance, can you check your QT data to see if you've played it 6-way or less and what the results are from all positions? Probably a pretty small sample, but it would be interesting....

Re: Gargle and then speak up, Joe

I would like it better if you would raise, quite frankly. In fact if Carl had raised that hand I wouldn't have objected. Because that's part of a strategy geared towards exploiting the other players....

Another torpedo to sink Joe\'s boat

Go to PokerRoom.com (http://www.pokerroom.com/games/evstats/pairStats.php) and look up QT offsuit as dealer with 6 players - you'll find it's negative EV at $3/$6. For 7 players, it's barely positive...
