Re: UPDATE

Since you've flushed me out of hiding, I might as well say, yes, I'm alive and well /images/graemlins/smile.gif. Got fairly burned out on poker last year after the WSOP and California State...

Re: (13th) nut flush draw hand

I think you should consider check raising the flop after it comes back to you with the opportunity to get it heads up, at least if you think there's some chance UTG can fold something like 99/KQ or a...

Re: 60-120 hand Th3h

If you had read the same hand I did, you would have noted he had only 3 opponents on the turn, as well as a flush draw and a gutshot, in addition to his top pair.

Re: results/comments

Heh, I feel tempted me to fly out there right now. Does it appear the 60 will become a regular game at the Commerce?

Re: 60-120 hand Th3h

I love the turn raise, but I might have a hard time not betting the river after the SB folds to your turn raise. He was the main threat to have you beaten on the turn, so after he folds you are only...

Re: Coilean and Dcifrths talk theory...

Here was my answer. Assume a typical party win rate around 2.5BB/100 hands, and an average around +3BB per pocket aces. With odds of getting aces at 1:220, you should lose 3BB/221hands*100hands =...

Re: 88 100-200 hand

[ QUOTE ]
Also, look at the hands that might 3-bet you on the turn. [...] if the BB is a very good player, his hands he is 3-betting you with might also be quite large. By that I mean hands like...

Re: 20-40 hand

I played a hand similar to this a few days ago, and I played it the same as you or Gabe, except the turn bettor had top set and 3-bet me, but paid off my river raise when I hit the gutshot...

Re: folding top set

Brutal one. I would probably call and expect to lose quite often, but I'm not laying down a set getting nearly 10:1 on the river in an 18BB pot against a couple of unknown Partiers. It would make me...

Re:This analysis is much too perfect (and results)

Heh, I have noticed in the past that we share a tendency to occassionally get grossly overextended in these steal/resteal situations. Whether this is a good thing or not, I'm not entirely sure...

Re: Facing yet another turn checkraise

Yeah, the turn bet does open the door for way too much posturing, as evidenced from my reply. I don't know that the bet is much better than marginal, but I think it's a far cry from "awful". But...

Re: Facing yet another turn checkraise

Alright, I'll play the devil's advocate here /images/graemlins/wink.gif.

It seems highly unlikely that this guy was sitting on much of a hand on the flop, and then tries to go for a check raise...

Re: A similar topic: Poker vs. inflation

[ QUOTE ]
Thirty years ago, a person making 1BB/hr in a 15/30 game was making a decent wage.

Thirty years ago there were probably far fewer 15-30 games spread in the country than...

Re: 40-80 hand, too weak?

This is L.A., so its' very unlikely anyone has a K or a bigger pocket pair than yours (given the lack of flop and preflop (re)raise), and a lot of guys in the BB with a J here would raise the flop to...

Re: 40-80 hand

If giving up for 1 bet on the river isn't really an option then the real question seems to be how often the remaining players will check behind with a hand that beats yours. I can't see you getting...

Re: More On Limping

The primary trouble with open limping against "perfect" preflop players as I see it is that profitable open limping hands comprise a pretty narrow range of hands (mostly smaller suited aces and...

Re: 40-80 hand

I suspect from his description of the player and the game that Clark may be reserving the right to fold for further river action, but I could be wrong. A reraise here on the flop looks viable...

Re: 80-160 AQ suited

I can only dream of flopping enough monsters to make covering for them a good reason to bet the flop here. Or to find opponents in an 80 game who 3-bet me preflop and then fold before the showdown...

Re: 15-30 hand #108 - KK on the button, down shift?

Getting 18:1 immediate odds to close the flop action with a call (and probably another 6:1 or better in implied odds), you really don't even need the backdoor draws to stick around. The backdoor...

Re: Overplayed?

After I raise the turn in those situations, that's pretty much the last money I plan on putting in the pot. If they call the turn, I figure chances are something more than 90% that they will call the...

Re: Gabe thought you might find this entertaining

I "loaned" my copy of Jones' book to someone long ago and never got it back, but I believe it came out around '98, so it's been available for quite a while. And yeah, I did a total 180 and started...

Gabe thought you might find this entertaining

One night when I was having a late dinner with Gabe at the Carson Street Cafe in the Nugget, I happened to mention the, ahem, unconventional preflop strategy I used back when I first started playing...
