Re: Tough Turn Decision

My mistake Bruce, you are correct. That does change things a little. Does it change a fold into a call? Giving the SB credit for trip 8's, how many outs do we have? 8, 4, or 0. I still think...

Re: Tough Turn Decision

Also, Ciaffrone's book is pretty weak/tight IIRC and what you really want is Harrington on Hold'Em 1 (but not 2.)

Well ... not to hijack the thread, but I take a little...

Re: Tough Turn Decision

The fact that you are a LH player explains a lot. I, too, was a LH player until switching to the dark side a few years ago.

In short: when making the switch from LH to NLH, almost all hands go...

Re: Tough Turn Decision

While I was responding to the question at hand, I'm in full agreement that the hand was misplayed on every street up to the current quandry on the turn. I humbly suggest reading Ciaffone and...

Re: Tough Turn Decision

By my quick calculation, you're getting around 5:1 on your call which is about what you need to hit your str8 on the river if it's good! He could have everything here from a made boat to a...

Re: i think this is a surprisingly complex foxwoods hand,,,

[ QUOTE ]
When you mention return 1-2 buyins, it means they get 1 or 2 buyins besides getting their money back. This case is getting 0.1 buyins not 1.1 .

I understood this fact when...

OK - I now understand where you are coming from. Thanks for taking the time to explain it in more detail.

I think there's been an important issue missing from my essay and all of these...

I think this is an easy push. Everyboyd is focusing on the $11k that you could miss out on if you just folded till the money, they're forgetting 1st is over $2 million, 2nd is over $1...

it's the same for big tourney pros who are investing hundreds of thousands a year into tourney entry fees. they are after the big score, not to sneak their way into a tiny return on their...

this might be a copout, i'm not sure.

but if i had satellited into the event, i'm folding here. the potential ROI/$EV gain of just folding in that case is huge, obviously.

however,...

Re: i think this is a surprisingly complex foxwoods hand,,,

The step from 0 to 1.1 buyins feels like a pretty big step to me. The hero's stack is just at the size where he can easily make it into the money, but is not big enough to scare the big stacks away...

My biggest problem with the article was that it didnt address slowplayings biggest problem; namely that it fails to build the pot. If I flop a full house in a multiway pot Im usually going...

Re: Inappropriate Slowplaying in No Limit Hold \'em Tournaments

OK. In the interest of continuing this discussion, in your opinion, what is the point I'm making? How does my being "results oriented" invalid this point?

Re: Inappropriate Slowplaying in No Limit Hold \'em Tournaments

I didn't go into a lot of detail in the atricle about these two situations, but whether either is a good slowplaying opportunity has at least as much to do with the other factors as with the...

Re: Endgame question

Sorry I wasn't more clear in my previous response. The clear default move here is to fold. You are getting neither the pot or implied odds to continue.

Any other options to continue would be...

Re: Endgame question

Not to be flippant, but 3 handed and short handed play is much more about context and flow than it is about hand value in isolation.

The expert play is to fold, call, raise or jam depending on all...

On the contrary I did not want to play weak/tight poker on the bubble.

Re: 99 on button on bubble

IMO, most NLH tourney players overvalue medium pairs. I know most will disagree with me here, but I think this is a fold preflop (even though it is close).

Rational:

1) The big stack in the...

Additional point about racing off chips:

Racing off is preferable to chipping up in large tourneys because the total chip count remains constant (what you do in a home tourney really doesn't...

Re: different bet size practice > misread > beat

I guess I really don't understand your thinking in this example. You raise preflop and get called by a hand you dominate. You get a good flop and only call his small bet. Why? He then sucks out...
