"Western" should be defined as a film set West of the Mississippi during the time period 1840-1910 where horses or rail were the prominent method of transportation.

My thoughts would be to exclude comedies. Besides Blazing Saddles and perhaps Cat Ballou, I don't think any other comedy would merit serious consideration anyways. I mean...Shanghai Knights? ...

I think the John Wayne/Clint Eastwood factions will have a hard time settling on one film, since both of those guys did so many QUALITY westerns. If you broke this into categories, like "Drama",...
