Bankroll is everything.

If you go pro, you must have an adequate bankroll for the level you expect to play at. You also must set some money aside to take care of your living expenses for a certain amount of time to cover a...

Re: To go pro or not, and where?

Here in Minnesota, the compacts for the Indian casinos forbid players from touching the cards. The state would like to have all the compacts re-done to get a cut of the pie which they forgot to take...

Tournament Payout Structure

I played in the monthly no-limit tournament at Canterbury today. With 207 entrants, they paid to the 19th spot. However, the payout for 10th thru 19th place was $100. The buy-in and fee was $100 +...

Re: casino whoring humour

I agree. There are AI systems out there that can do exactly that. I think it was a computer.

Re: Recommended Play Sites

I like to play at Pokerroom (http://www.pokerroom.com) and Pacific Poker (http://www.pacificpoker.com). Both have provided excellent service and quick cashouts. Of the two, I prefer Pokerroom...

Re: Another reason why this forum is so valuable!

I was seriously considering opening an account at a Prima Poker network site. So, thanks for the information. I think I will look elsewhere.

Thanks again,

Re: 3-10 BB/hr online

1 to 1.5 BB per hour is fine for the B&M cardrooms. The rate online is much higher. Your 3.9 is probably real close to the mean.

Re: Do you limp first in shorthanded? Why?

I am setting traps designed for the tough, solid players. I want to make it as tough as possible for them to put me on a hand. And, most of all, I want them to play incorrectly according to...

Re: Do you limp first in shorthanded? Why?

Yes, re-raising is in order with QQ and JJ. Even in a full game, I tend to use the same strategy. As I recall, it is 3 to 2 that an A or K will appear on the flop. Of course, in the low limit games,...

Re: Value betting your kicker.

If you don't suspect that your opponents have the case ace or a pocket pair, and you think your kicker will hold up, ie the 8, then it is certainly the proper play.

IMO, you played it well.

Re: Do you limp first in shorthanded? Why?

I use game theory to limp first in. For AA and KK, they must come club-diamond to limp 1 out of 12 times. QQ, two red or one red queen and the queen of clubs, is raised 50% of the time. JJ is raised...

Re: 6-max tables

Good point about Turbo Texas Holdem. I agree with it completely. TTH was good for me up to a point.

As for playing ATos, it is a good hand to use for deception in a short-handed game. Overall,...

Re: Best Player?

Occasionally, 72os wins. Sometimes slowplaying will win more money than betting it out right.

I understand what you are saying. But I don't think it is quite that easy. First, you need to decide...

It looks to me this is a statistical phenomenon. Overall, ATo appears to be a push.

Re: A 8 offsuit

This is certainly a case where raising is better than calling. When you raise, you are decreasing the probability of making a mistake. But folding is definitely the way that I would have played it.

Re: Quick question

Don't let the loose players here convince you to play AX, calling or raising. Muck it. The hand has a negative EV. Check it out here...

Re: Basic newbie questions

I would suggest picking up Lou Krieger's book Hold'em Excellence. It provides a nice chart for suited and unsuited cards to play.

If you are good at counting blackjack, you'll do fine in poker....

Best Player?

The reason that I chose T8s is that it has a negative expectation for all positions in a short-handed game. Is it wise to raise with a -EV? Somehow that doesn't make sense to me. In other words, if I...

Re: Raising in shorthanded

I think it is important to mix it up and play the same hands differently. Keep'em guessing. It seems like the more I play, the more I use position and game theory to mix up my game. I love to punish...

Sensative Schoolgirl?

My opinion was, is, and will be your play is loose. Period. If it bothers you, either toughen up or go on tilt or both. Now that is personal.

Re: Raising in shorthanded

There are two different schools of thought with raising in shorthanded games. The first one is always raise when first-in. The second is raise only with starting cards that warrant raises. I am one...
