Just how long can a losing streak last? One of my books says the worst case streak could last 1400 hours. Is this true? Any other guesses or explanations?

I am a beginner also. One thing that has helped me from an essay on this site (8 mistakes) is to avoid checking and calling. This is oversimplified, but either bet, raise, or fold.
