Re: Scrabble Dictionary changes

This does succeed if the goal was to make the X a less ridiculous letter.

The point values in scrabble have never seemed very balanced to me anyway, so I'm not sure this really makes it much worse.

Re: Another Magic player wins a bracelet

[ QUOTE ]

Although this post mostly sucked, he is right about the cheating. The cheating in Magic tourneys is pretty disgusting.

Is cheating a bigger problem at big Magic...

Re: Best Baseball Player Not in the Hall

I'll agree with Blyeven, but I really think Jim Rice is way over-rated and is short of belonging in the HoF.

Compare him with these players :

George Foster
Fred Lynn
Dwight Evans

I think...

Re: How Would You Play It: KQ flopped two pair

[ QUOTE ]

It is important to keep in mind here that the villain only has $350 to start the hand.

This is important to keep in mind and is one of many good reasons to fold...

Re: Let the datamining begin $1000 NL

I've been using PT a little bit on 5/10 game at Poker Plex. Of the stats that are easy to get and digest the main things seem to be :

1. Whether or not the players is winning.
2. VP$IP can help...

Re: Power Poker

One thing nobody has mentioned is that the BB still gets to act on the flop.

I'd prefer check-raising the flop just to try and get the other two players to define their hands more. If you just...

Re: If you could control education in the US...

Privatization really isn't a viable solution. What happens to the kids enrolled at the private schools who turn out not to be up to snuff? Best case, they have parents that care and they get moved...

Re: The origins of poker nerds

Is this Chris Pikula the magic player? Do you know Randy Beuhler? I think Randy Beuhler is fat. He will never stop eating pizza.

Re: What can you do with a math degree?

Getting a job at the NSA as a mathematician basically requires a graduate degree which doesn't seem realistic for the original poster. It takes 5-7 years full time to get a PhD in an area of math.

Re: This hand still bugs me. $500 max NL

Huskie's numbers are correct. You can get them from running any hand simulator, or you can just approximate them by drawing to 7 outs and then 10 outs. Remember to take into account that the 2 big...

Re: How many limpers before you\'ll check AKs in the BB?

TakeMeToTheRiver,
When that happens I'm inclined to check regardless of the flop and see how the action develops after you. You have virtually no fold equity, so you want to have a better read of...

Re: How do you make money playing high stakes NL ?

I played 2/5 6-Max last night for more than an hour with a player who only folded pre-flop once. He was initially doing pretty well until I realized his post-flop betting pattern was extremely easy...

Re: I finally watched Eternal Sunshine last night

Crumb is a good movie. A bit stranger than American Splendor. I had a friend who became obsessed with Crumb and watched it at least once a day for a month. That isn't a good idea.

Re: Over-pair hand. Mistakes?

Yuck.

First off, I definitely think you should be raising JJ from UTG. If you don't like calling a re-raise, fold. I don't think it's optimal, but it will cost you less than playing JJ like this...

Re: Preflop rise in NL

The percentage is going to depend a lot on how many people are at the table. I usually play 6 max, so I raise many more hands than I would at a full table.

3.5% still seems very low to me. If...

Pocket Queens from Small Blinds

3 people limp,...

Getting reads on players

Hi,

By way of background, I'm a new player and typically play 6-handed 1/2 NL on party. So far I'm winning, but not so much that I'm convinced I wouldn't be a loser long term. The main area I'm...

Re: Uninteresting but common 5/10 hand

First of all, I don't think completing in the SB here is a good idea if you don't have any kind of read on the CO. You need to be sure you're hand is going to get paid off when it hits, and I don't...
