Re: Hi/Lo Declare? Home game mania...
This rule isn't absurd at all, this game was the one most often called in my dealer's choice game back in high school (late 80's) and I was still playing it in home games up thru the mid- to late-...

Re: 1/2 Stud/8 - Sm. str8
No doubt they are hugely profitable hands, but whenever you face a lot of action on the river in a multi-way pot, they are probably no good.

Re: 10/20 Stud/8: Weird hand
I agree (4K)K is usually a fold, but in this case a raise is clearly in order to get heads up against what appears to be a lower pair. When you get re-raised, you can put him on a very limited range...

Re: 1/2 Stud/8 - Sm. str8
Just a tangential comment (not about this hand in particular)... I've found the seven-high straight to be one of the biggest "trap" hands in the game ... I guess Aces Up as well, but that hand is a...

Re: AA fold
Given the overwhelming reaction, I guess I did make the wrong move. For the record, I did manage to get it heads up and took the chip lead but ended up finishing second.
I don't think I'm a bad...

Re: AA fold
I didn't say my move was correct, that's why I'm posting on here.
From your post, it is obvious to me that you have never played a single hand of Stud/8 or Omaha/8 in your life.

AA fold
I play mostly Stud Hi/Lo and Omaha Hi/Lo, but occasionally I play a NLH SNG to switch things up. I thought this was an obvious fold but when I asked some friends, they were flat-out indignant that I...

Re: The Variance of Stud
I have a suggestion, you should give Stud Hi/Lo 8-or-better a shot, it's probably the poker game with the lowest amount of variance (it's either Stud/8 or Omaha/8... played with fixed limits).

Re: 30-60 Stud8 Hand...Still Learning
I don't think the bet on 5th is bad if you have two pair. If you get raised, you know you are probably getting free rolled for the high end, so you can check-call down (or check-fold on 6th if he...

Re: 7stud hi/lo vs. Omaha hi/lo
These are the 2 games I play the most. I think Omaha/8 is more of a "feel" game because of the lack of information about other players' hands. You pretty much have to make a determination as to what...

Re: bad hi/lo session
It really looks like you were steaming pretty bad to take another card off on 5th street even after catching 2 bricks... and betting out on 6th representing a low when you have made it clear that no...

Re: Where to play 2/4. 3/6 stud8 in LV?
This question comes up every so often, I think your best bet is Palace Station on Fridays... I played in the 1-3/1-6 Stud/8 game there in June of this year
Subsequent to that, there have been some...

Re: Probability question
All I know is the probability of catching an offsuit 9 when you start with 3 babies in Stud/8 is about 80-90%.

Re: Stud8 Tournament 3rd Street Play
I agree, there's no reason to play marginal holdings when you know you will get paid off handsomely if you just wait for legitimate strong starters.

Re: Stud8 Tournament 3rd Street Play
For what it's worth, I prefer to really push big pairs late in a tournament when your completion is more likely to get the pot heads-up (or 3-way with the bring-in) or just win the pot outright

Re: stud8: do you bet here too?
I don't bet here but I'm pretty unimaginative with these type of hands (i.e., crapola)... I like your move, you will probably get at least one of the players to fold, and the other will fold to a bet...

Re: A Sticky Stud Eight or Better Situation
In almost every such case (where you have made 2 big pair), you will be enough of a favorite for the high side to automatically check-call all the way down. I wouldn't fold unless I was beaten on...
