Re: multiple forks in the road
The preflop fold question is interesting. This is one reason I think it is correct to raise, rather than call, with medium pocket pairs UTG in a high-stakes game.

Re: Bellagio 80/160 4 bet flop then check turn?
It's a confusing situation. I never know what to make of this sort of thing. It is possible he has something like 66 or 77 and the ten has slowed him down, but it's really hard to make a solid read...

Re: First Things First, flop decision
Certainly not standard. This is one of those situations where you have to mix it up. Your play is reasonable to take some of the time. But realize you have gone out on a limb with aggression here....

Re: 15/30 QTs turn
Preflop: QTs is worth a raise in this spot and it's not particularly close. Even Q9s is worth a raise here.
Flop: I don't agree with the crowd. I think the best play was to lead. If fish...

Re: When do you move down/what do you do?
Personally I move down when I feel I am losing confidence. This happened to me about a month ago -- 350BB downswing at rather high stakes led me to cut in half and get most of it back.

Re: Losing EV not changing your nickname?
I think by keeping your handle, you lose during the play of hands because people play better against you. The fact that you know they will play better against you does not make up for this.

Re: Game selection
If variance is a concern, obviously 8-table.
Otherwise I think I'd do the HU for learning purposes. EV may or may not be slightly less, but I don't imagine someone who is at the level of...

Re: 150-300 PAYOFF
Preflop: I think this is a fold. K4s is worth stealing here, K3s is not. Seriously.
Flop: The only question is whether to call the raise or 3-bet. I think it's close, but you are probably...

Re: Quick quiestion about SB-defense
I would say never call. If you are going to play, you should raise for three reasons:
(1) Your hand on average is better than the button's average hand.
(2) You want to put maximum pressure on...

Re: Quantifying the value of position in limit HE
I like your method a LOT.
Unfortunately the fact that the BB was losing more than 1SB per hand suggests there is something wrong with the TTH programming. Because they could hold their loss to...

Quantifying the value of position in limit HE
I am curious if anyone has ever tried to quantify the value of position in limit HE.
For instance, here is a problem whose solution would interest me very much. Players A and B both put two small...

Re: how much aggression to show with TPTK
I agree I generally fold AT. But I had just folded a bunch of blinds in a row . . .
The ten isn't that strong, I know. But it gets better when you consider that opponents are regularly making...

Re: how much aggression to show with TPTK
Preflop -- I had been folding blinds left and right and felt a need to take a stand, even though my hand was not as good as I would have liked.
Flop -- He made a continuation bet. I don't put...

Re: Miniraising preflop
No, if a little fairy told me the BB had 22-77, I would raise bigger.
But usually they don't. For instance I just won a nice pot because I miniraised UTG with AKo, the big blind was kind enough...

Re: Miniraising preflop
I was thinking of full ring when I wrote that. In 6 max, UTG is only 3 off the button. From that position, you need to start opening with hands like T9s some of the time. This is not an...
