Re: Should I have bet the river?
It is pointless to bet this river. There are too many hands that are ahead of you or which your opponent will fold if he has missed his draw.

Re: JJ - Party 15/30
If they had busted draws, they were hardly likely to call your bet so you lost nothing by checking the river.

Re: JTo in late position
Fold. You are probably behind already and a J or a 10 is not a clean out. The pot is too small to justify calling with this hand. Two extra callers improve the pot odds sufficiently to make it worth...

Re: AQ on the button against a raise
I have my doubts whether AJ or KJ would call this hand. The river card is just as scary for your opponent as it is for you if he has one of those hands. He has presumably been calling the flop and...

Re: AQ on the button against a raise
Is this not one of those hands when your opponent is unlikely to stay in the hand unless he has you beat? What hands are you beating that he would call bets on all three rounds with?

Re: Anyone re-raise this flop?
Surely if you raise and scare off both of the players behind you, you are probably looking at getting one more bet on the turn. If the other players check/call the flop without a raise, you have more...

Re: Anyone re-raise this flop?
With a powerful drawing hand like this, you want to make the pot as big as possible. If you think that the two players behind you will call a bet but fold to a raise, then you should simply call. The...

Re: 88 flops a set
Raise the flop. You are asking for trouble when you just call with that board. You want to eliminate the button player if possible and in any event you are betting for value at that stage. When the...

Re: At the risk of sounding stupid.......
Thanks for clearing that up. I recently acquired Hold em Poker by David Sklansky and Mason Malmuth and I notice that the recommended starting hands in that book have a number of differences from the...

Q8s
I think I probably made a mistake on every betting round here, but what do you think?
.50/1 UB
Pre-flop:
Hero is dealt Q8s in CO
UTG folds, UTG1 calls,UTG2 calls, 3 folds, Hero calls,...

Re: Fold set of Jacks in this situation?
I would be happy to play HU against a single opponent with JJ. Once the number of opponents increases, the chances of JJ standing up decrease significantly. The real question is whether, if you raise...

Re: Fold set of Jacks in this situation?
Your flop will be just as favourable if you limped in as opposed to a raise. Don't get me wrong. I raise JJ more often than not, but what I want to avoid is playing in a raised pot against three or...

Re: Fold set of Jacks in this situation?
Ok, so you raise your JJ and have four opponents. An A, K or Q flops. An opponent bets. What do you do now? Or your opponents check and two call when you bet- what now? JJ is a hand that can cost you...

Re: This one hurt a lot. Was I TOO agressive?
You know your opponent has to have a high pocket pair, and there is no reason at all to place him on a pair of tens rather than JJ or even 99 upwards. I agree that you have to cap the betting on the...

Re: Fold set of Jacks in this situation?
Wow, that was some maniac if he was willing to do all that betting with a gutshot straight draw. As for raising pre-flop, is the theory not that you should only raise JJ if it will restrict the...

Re: Fold set of Jacks in this situation?
Is it really likely that two opponents were betting so aggressively before the river with just a straight draw? I think that the Maniac has something like J10 since he only called your three bet...

Re: Tight Passive Player Comes Out Betting
Has this guy been in the habit of limping with hands like KK,AK etc? If not, what kind of hand do you place him on? With such a small pot, you should arguably just fold to the bet on the flop if you...

Re: Waiting until the turn to raise
There are two arguments for calling the flop rather than raising it. Firstly you can argue that you hope to raise three big bets on the turn rather than three small ones on the flop. That...

In the long run it is not a good idea to base all your decisions on whether or not to bet on the possibility that your opponent is insane. There are very few hands that he can sensibly have that will...

Re: Too Aggressive?
I would bet here too. If anyone has a flush draw, he will probably call notwithstanding that the odds for doing so are a bit dodgy but if he folds due to the small pot you should be happy to have...
