Re: Fairly simple one.
If the loose open limper raises with a hand like KJ, then I bet, otherwise, I check. I might be more inclined to bet if the opener would fold ace-rag and if the big blind would call preflop with...

Re: AKs 5-10 6max -- Is This ALWAYS Wrong?
[ QUOTE ]
Sure those hands are possibilities but most would cap preflop with JJ or AKs, and far from everybody raises 55 UTG. But ok you are right, have to consider those against some players.

Re: AKs 5-10 6max -- Is This ALWAYS Wrong?
[ QUOTE ]
Gotta raise flop or turn. You are ONLY behind one reasonable hand (KJ) and there are so many other he could have, with 2-15 outs to beat you. Have to charge the draws, worrying about...

Re: Learn Stud Before Playing Hi/Low?
I am speaking as someone who doesn't play higher than 3/6 on-line.
After being successful at Omaha/8, I followed some fish over to Stud/8 and I seem to be reasonably successful mainly because I...

Re: Aces in deck; never seen this analysis?
In his excellent poker tome The Making of a Poker Player, Matt Matros cites "the bunching factor" as a reason why you should open-raise with more hands in a short-handed game compared to when you are...

Re: The FTOP and calling on the river
[ QUOTE ]
Its just really really odd to me that calling on the end headsup is always suboptimal yet it happens on almost every hand.

Your mistake is in thinking that the FTOP...

Re: Pot sized bet overused in NL poker?
[ QUOTE ]
If on the turn, you have a marginal or big hand and you think your opponent is on a draw that will beat your hand if it gets there, 3/4 of the pot is enough to give him incorrect odds on...

Re: Catching Bluffers
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
With a hand whose only value is bluff-catching, you have a very mediocre holding, perhaps something as weak as ace-high in Texas hold em. An aggressive player may (wrongly) bet...

Re: A hand with 60% equity on the flop
I'm describing a player who will automatically raise the flop until capped no matter what he holds, so his betting on the flop won't tell you whether he has you beat.

A hand with 60% equity on the flop
This exact hand did not occur, but the hypothetical opponent is based upon a player I encountered since I want to figure out what I should do if I encounter a similar opponent in the future.
In a...

Re: Defending with cheese.
I think the key is that you just sat down at the table. I feel comfortable defending my blind against most raisers so long as I have a good idea of what their range of raising hands are and how they...

Having not read it, I don't know the context within which Sklansky is writing.
The way I understand poker, the tight player will have either a very strong hand or absolutely nothing for a river...
