Re: Poker Rate at Harrah\'s New Orleans?
That had deals with area hotels to put up players, I believe, but I cannot imagine them giving anyone anything during Mardi Gras, though, no matter how dysfunctional the holiday is going to be next...

Re: Imperial Palace Biloxi Poker Room
I played the last hand dealt at the Palace the night they shut down for Katrina. It was a pretty room. I don't see why it wouldn't open with the rest of the place unless they don't have the employees...

Re: Harrah\'s New Orleans
It's an employment issue. They're contractually obligated to employ something like 2400 people as part of their deal with the state. I read that that they can't open with anything less than full...

Re: Tropicana AC a dump?
I stayed there last summer and it was fine. Never stayed at Borgata, so I can't factor in the letdown effect. I also ran great when I played, so maybe that accounts for my view.

Vicksburg, Mississippi poker
Anyone with any recent experience playing poker in the Vicksburg, MS casinos? I'm heading to Jackson, MS in a couple of weeks and was thinking of staying in a poker-friendly hotel/casino.

1. Get the hang of 4-tabling.
2. [ QUOTE ]
Find out about settling the new New Orleans. (I was supposed to move there today. But, that was the plan 3 months ago before Katrina. I want to be part...

Glad to hear that, though I wonder how it applies to tip-oriented positions like poker dealers and cocktail servers.

Re: Harrahs won\'t miss YOU !
It's worth being mindful of how Harrah's handles the situation with its out-of-work employees. If they don't do right by them, I'll be squeamish of going into any of their casinos ever again. It's a...

Bush, Bernice, and all the other octogenarian (at least) players, and the faces without names whom I sat with for hours on end.

Nick C displaced by Katrina-- well-wishes
Pardon the off-topic somber post, but I feel it's worth mentioning that Nick C, carpal/tunnel poster to this forum, is a New Orleans resident who was forced to evacuate from Katrina. To my knowledge,...

Re: Poker in New Orleans
Good point about the regulars, but the downside is that they're not so dim that they won't come to recognize that you are a good/serious player, whereas the off-the-street drunks don't know who you...

Re: lmd taught me this
My thoughts:
Is it worth putting 3 big bets at risk in a pot that contains only 3.5 big bets? For 1.5 big bets you could have led the flop and the turn and taken it down that way, or folded safely...

Re: Poker in New Orleans
Harrah's has recently started a $200 max buy-in 2/5 no limit game. I have no reason to think it's any less soft than the rest of what they spread. I've yet to step in, but I watched a PF rasier bet...

Re: Gonna live off 2/4 - How long?
100 Big Bets at a 5/10 is nowhere near enough. I've had 100 big bet downswings at every level I've ever played, online and live, regardless of how much better I was than everyone else (and, in some...

Re: Harrah\'s -- New Orleans
The 3/6 can either bring a lot of short-term misery or make you feel like a genius.
6/12 is more rational (though you simply never know), though also quite good, but the games have trouble...

Some off the cuff thoughts:
This may be a pessimistic way of looking at it, but I think I'd raise here to build the pot, not necessarily to chase anyone away with draws, so that I get very good...

Re: How common is a -140bb swing?
I've had 100-150 BB downswings at 2/4 on a few occasions. They're there, for sure. How much the downswings were exacerbated by poor play I do not know for sure. My tendency during rough patches is to...
