Rake Rebate Program - No Affiliate - No Scam - No Spam

Dear Poker Site Manager,

Mr. TheJeep says that if I sign up for an account on your site through his affiliate program he gets paid 30% of my rake and he will give me back 10% of it.

If I sign up directly with you instead of through Mr. TheJeep, will you give me back 15% of my own rake and not give him anything?

Thank you,
aPlayer

Why don't they just pay back 15% to everyone and stop with the affiliates?
That wouldn't be so bad

Well, they make money despite giving you a fifth of their cut. Think about it, you go around getting as many people you can to sign up for their site using your code, and if they do, they're getting 80% of a new player's rake for doing basically nothing. You are advertising for them. It's a pretty sweet deal for them.

Basically, it's not going to go away because the alternatives to giving somebody $65 or 20% rake is lowering the house take or increased promotions. Lowering the rake doesn't really do much, because most players don't really care about house take, and promotions and things cost money to run/advertise I guess. This is just my take on it.

24hpoker are currently doing this as an experiment until the end of the year. All rake rebated once $100 in rake has been paid per calendar month, ie capped at 100. (Closed deal now for a limited no of payers, so can't get into it now).

Maybe Stefan will come on and tell us how that went.

prop programs also often are rake rebate to the max.

Because affiliates recruit new customers. They are in business to make the most amount of money possible. For this reason if you asked to essentially "be your own affiliate" they might work something out since it'd be profitable for them. They would raise the rake out the roof if it would be profitable to do so.

Why would a site raise the rake? In fact, the competition for poker players is so intense, that only the $3.00 rake seems to be keeping the large sites from completely taking over the field.

If the larger sites started a price war, they could drive the smaller ones out of business, and theoretically then could charge whatever they wished. Luckily, the online poker business is not so capital intensive that it would work.

If the sites drove the smaller sites out of business today, more could start up tomorrow, and the players wouldn't put up with a constant up and down, I don't believe.

It seems the $3.00 rake is here to stay. The only variable is how much of it you get back in promotions, rebates, affiliate fees etc.

Doesn't seem like such a bad deal though. New players are happy with the game and keep playing, or they go bust too fast and leave.

As long as the public finds poker as much fun as it appears that they do, we will be fine.

They wouldn't, I said they would IF it made them more money. (which it wouldn't most likely)

Doubtful, the vast majority of players have no real concept of the effect of the rake and a lower rake wouldn't draw them in to a site. It would only draw in good players.
