florida land-based poker.

hi everyone,
trying to find out if anyone has heard the details about the new betting structure now allowed for poker in florida. previously, only a maximum of 10 dollars a pot was allowed. these games offered a jack-pot for the royal flush, but the rake and extra fees were very high. basically, you played to hit the jack-pot. i hit it, by the way. i had only played a few times before that, so i was very fortunate.

has anyone heard anything about the new rules that make it identical to the vegas low-limit games?

I heard from a dealer at the soon closing Mohegan Sun that they have lifted the pot restrictions entirely. He is going to the Seminole Casino in Tampa to be a floor person when Mohegan closes. I still haven't seen the story or legislative vote in print. Maybe there is a gov site for Florida that would have details on the bill passed.

I'm not sure if the bill passed has been signed off on or not but don't get too excited. There will only be a maximum big bet of $2.00 (even though the pot can get as large as $200.00 according to the people opposed to the bill).

We can only wish that we will see real poker here one day.

Almost real poker now

I looked some stuff up last night after reading your post. And I came across a Fl govt. site, cant remember the name though. Anyway i did a search for key word "poker" on there and came up w/ 3 articles all dated from last week. To keep a long story short, the SOBush, had until Aug, 7th to sign the bill, veto it or, let it become law without his signature, well thats what he did, didnt sign it, so it became law. I called the Tampa Greyhound track and Seminole Indian Casino in Tampa to double check and both comfirmed that the new limits went into effect the beginning of this week. Its only $1-$2 betting limits w/ no capped pot, but atleast its a start. The good news that I've heard but cant confirm until i run up to Seminole on Saturday, is that they are allowed to have regular tournaments, none of that after 30 hands crap whoever has the most chips wins, from what I've read is they will play just like regular tourny's where it is actually played down to one player, and they will probably have single table and multitables w/ buyins that could be $40, $55, and maybe higher, but like I said Im going up there on Saturday and I'll find out for sure.

P.S. Oh yeah almost forgot, the new limits and non capped pot is only played from noon to midnight, but I think the Dog Track can play a little later b/c its not an indian casino, so it has a little bit different laws. Hope this helps.

Wasn\'t 1/2 a high limit circa 1903?

I mean who is going to bother to play this game? Newbies and retirees and the homless, no serious players, I guess the dixie mafia and the Cuban mafia are going to still be in busines.........

Seminole/Hard Rock trip report.

Ok, Florida guys, im gonna try to keep this short. I ran up to the new Hard Rock Casino in Tampa on Saturday. Me and a Friend of mine got there about 2:00 pm, and they had 27 poker tables (will be 55 when the expansion is done in april) out of the 27, 4 were holdem, they told us it would be a 2 hour wait, We can only hope this was due to it being the first weekend of the new limits and them only having half the tables that they will in the future, oh yeah, and a friggin 5max rake on a friggin 1-2 game, @$$holes.

The 2 hour wait f'in blew b/c there is nothing else to do there except play the friggin slots and that is stupid, at least they had a kickass sports bar, so we caught up on some games.

Anyway, they give you pagers when you are waiting, the wait turned out to be 3 1/2 hours (f'in garbage) and to top it off they buzzed my pager twice and both times said "im sorry it was a mistake, i was looking at the wrong page", friggin idiots.

Finally, after we got on a table at friggin 5:30, after 10 minutes at the table I realize the worst poker players in the world had all came to tampa today, I mean 4-5 people still in on the river everyhand, turning up 7-4 offsuit with J,K,9,5,A on the board, and this was a regular thing. It was not odd to see 8-10 players seeing the flop, even if it was raised. Didnt bother me, I won 3 hands in 2 1/2 hours and was up $60, got cold cards for the next 2 1/2 hours, only saw 3 or 4 flops in that time, for some reason I went to the river w/ my unimproved AK and didnt hit anything so I mucked it, anyway after not winning a pot for 2 1/2 hours I was only up $15, then I had a hand of QQ in the pocket and had the nut full by the river and got paid off bigtime and ended up leavin +$32 after 5 hours.

The last thing I'd like to touch on was the dealers there friggin sucked, they had to be the worst dealers in the world, only 2-3 of them could deal in Vegas, I actually saw a dealer deal a card to the wrong person and it flew off the table and she actually picked it up off the floor and gave it to the right player. Also, I saw a dealer give back 4 $1 chips to the big blind, b/c he had a $5 chip in there, the only problem was that it was a capped pot ($4), lmao. Another thing that pissed me off is that they change dealers almost every 10 minutes, no joke. I dont know what idiots they have running this poker room, but there is a lot they can improve on, lets only hope they figure it out.

Also, I said I'd check out the tournys, as of right now they dont have any single table tournys, and they were having one multiplayer tourny every Wednesday, but they canceled the last 2 for this month, because the place is to packed with live action. Anyway, I dont think I'll be back anytime soon when I can play 2-3 times as high online and pay half the rake, and not have to deal with retarded dealers. Oh, yeah before I forget, anybody who goes there, the drinks arent free, I ordered a red bull energy drink when I got to the table and the girls said "$4 honey" I almost [censored] my pants.

Oh well, I guess that really wasnt short, sorry, but hope this info helps anyone in Florida.

Re: Seminole/Hard Rock trip report.

Thanks for the report. I called the Seminoles closer to my house on the other coast. Still the same crappy tournaments with x-amount of hands and its over. They dealers at all of the Seminole Casino's aren't too bright. The players really love no fold-em hold-em and I'm sure the HUGE stakes will not stop them from playing there poker. Still not worth the time. Sticking with the internet and the occasional boat trip.
