Bringing laptops into cardrooms and using them while playing

Do card rooms allow players to bring wireless laptops into the room and work on them while at the table playing cards. Maybey have a wireless internet connection and have an online game going at the same time while playing at the table? Anyone seen anything like this?

I've never seen anyone try so I can't be sure, but I'd be shocked if it was allowed. Foxwoods doesn't even allow you to use a cell phone in the poker room.

It won't be allowed.

Casinos are leary of computer use due to the value they can be in beating games like blackjack. The impression that the computer is being used to help you play better would be the reason it's prohibited.

Several years ago, I played a couple of times a week in the middle limit games at Hollywood Park. There was a dealer there who, like many other dealers, would play on his days off. He always brought a small computer, of the PDA type, and set it up on a beverage table next to him. I noticed he would type something in at the start and end of every session, and also after any hand he was involved in.

One night I asked him about it. He told me he was making notes about the game so he would have an accurate record of each player's betting patterns.

He was completely open about using this computer, and I never saw anyone, customer or management, object to it.

Keep in mind that this was Southern California. I know that Nevada casinos don't like to see any sort of electronic devices in their customers' hands.

Hi ineedmoneybad:

Most cardrooms have rules against reading at the table. So that alone should prohibit the laptop.

Best wishes,
Mason

Hey call this number 1-800-betsoff, cause if you need to play an online game and a live game you have some serious issues! Oh and I would highly doubt they would let you do it.

Even if they did let you do it, there's no way that the casino is dumb enough to have set up a wireless internet network that runs through the casino. Their surveilance has loads of gadgets used to detect incoming and outgoing wireless communications so that known theives cannot play/cheat via some stranger with a hidden camera.

I have seen someone use a "Palm organizer" at a poker table before. I think he used it to record the hands that he played. This was not in Vegas. In my opinion, you do not need any such gadget(s), concentrate on and give your full attention to the game at hand.

Depends

I think a lot depends on where you play. Vegas allows nothing. California seems to be a lot more permissive.

In Florida I was told I couldn't use my cell phone in a 10-cent/20-cent game because I might have a confederate behind the rail telling me other people's cards. Like it was worth the cell phone minutes on TWO phones to beat a 10-cent game!
