Battleship Strategy

I'm sure you guys are all familiar with the game "Battleship."

I was wondering if there's any strategy involved in battleship ( with regards to ship placement, as well as firing strategy).

Yup. Battleship related advice would be greatly appreciated.

make X's with your guesses so you can utilize your misses. Make sure you aren't making guesses side by side unless you know their ship is right there.

My strategy, start with A1, then B3, C5, D7 and make staggared diagonal lines like that.

My strategy too. The idea is to cast a net of shots that is small enough to catch the little destroyer without covering every square. Usually I call shots all over the board instead of going line by line, but the effect is the same.

Also, I stack all my ships on top of the carrier.

I'm with you guys as well. Basically you hit every other dot on the map. Once you take out the tiny ship (the one that is only 2 spots big) just adjust and attack every third point.

I think everybody does this.

It just occurred to me that a great way to counter this is, keep your ships right on the edges.

Also, since everyone seems to start in the A1 B2 region (upper left), maybe we should send our boats down to the lower right.

Another thing to try is cluster your ships all together. It may not win, but it's funny as hell.

Yeah I love it when my opponent freaks out after getting 5 hits in a line and not sinking anything. They usually freak out and think I'm cheating or bsing.

No. But if I'm so bored I'm playing Battleship with somebody, then this is how I'm going out.
