Accidental muck rule
 

In a game this evening, the cards from my hand hit the Board cards when I turned mine face up and dropped them on the table after all action was completed. The River betting was heads up, and mine was the winning hand. I had already called the last bet. In fact, I tried to raise it, but then the Dealer informed me the last bet had put the other player all in, and she said "Show them."

I was sitting across the table from the Dealer, who was spreading the Board cards unusually close to me because of the location of the cover over the shuffling machine. When my cards touched the Board, the loser started yelling, "Muck, muck," and was furious when the Casino refused to rule my hand dead.

It doesn't seem possible that the winning hand could ever be ruled dead under such circumstances, but I don't know whether the Casino was just being nice to me because the other guy was such an obnoxious sore loser. Does anybody know the rule on this? Thanks.

you may get more responses in the B&M forum. this is a good question. my understanding is the cards are dead if they hit the MUCK pile, not the board cards. there are some good dealers who frequent the B&M board, they will help.

The loser is wrong.

If you muck your cards - ie, throw them face down - and they touch the muck pile, then they are dead.

If they are put on the table face up after all the action has been completed, then they are not dead.

I am sure that the guy was angle shooting and he knew it.

This was an angle-shoot, of course, and a lame one at that. I have heard of one or two B&M rooms that have some rule about cards touching the board, but those are the very, very small exception.

It should be noted that touching the much itself does not even kill a hand automatically. The muck is not magic. If you flip your cards up at showdown and one touches the muck, the floor should not rule your hand dead. There are also instances where it is permissable for an identifiable hand to be removed from the muck and declared live.

However, as always, local room rules prevail and there may be some nitty exeption about cards touching the board or the muck.

Of couse, it's always best just to table your cards in front of you and hold onto them until you get the pot or you've conceded the pot.

And if that fails throw the muck at the nit and hope it kills him.
