Psychology of the bad beat posts?
 

No matter which poker forum you read you will eventually come across a bad beat post. Sometimes the message is hidden as a question or in some other way disguised but the fact remains that a large number of people find it necessary to whine about their unfair beats.

I don't get it? It is a post about something that never has much relevance to others. There are no amazing bad beats in a single poker hand. The probability of a suck out never is that low and you will see it happen regularly.

The question is what motivates a bad beat poster? Sometimes the posters even excuse their post before they start to cry because they know that no one really cares.

I personally have never felt that I needed to communicate a beat, but admittedly I don't play for cash that matters so that might be a reason. However I am curious hear your opinion about it.

Often when something upsets someone they want to share it with someone.

Also, they may want reassurance that they played the hand correctly.

People want somebody to sympathize with. Somebody to pat them on the shoulder and tell them they deserved to win and just got unlucky. But they should know that anyway.

Beats cancel. You take beats and remember-- then, you put beats on people and forget-- immediately.

What's left is the quality of your decisions, regardless of results.

Bad beat posts are a kind of powerless/victim post. It's a kind of admittance that you are not responsible for all your results-- but someone else is.

Few if any count the beats they put on opponents. They only count the beats they take. This stuff cancels.

What's left is your intention to win or lose.

Yes, some play to lose.

And it's always some one elses fault.

thats all they looking for...some sympathy. If you have nothing positive to say then don't say anything..otherwise offer suport.

A winning player will have many many times more bad beats applied to him than the other way around.
