SB had pushed all-in several times earlier in the tourney, once showing pocket sixes, another time showing JT [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]'s. Is this a clear call?

agree, this is a very strong hand SH and you don't want to give him any overcards to improve with on the flop.

I almost did. I had slightly over ten big blinds in my stack so I decided to just open for a standard raise. But given that I did not, is this an insta-call?

That rule shouldn't be strictly adhered. There are times (albeit rare) that I would open for 3x with less than 10xBB. More often, the flipside occurs (as in this hand) where I would openpush more than 10xBB.

In situations like this I try to remember to ask myself, what am I going to do if someone comes over the top. If the answer is call, then I might as well have gone all in to begin with and have the benifit of some fold equity.

In this situation even though you have slightly more than 10x bb, I think I would push.
