The longest draw

In the other thread about rigged poker, someone talked about losing to a 989-1 shot. I can beat that.

Last night at Casino Arizona, 8-16 limit. I'm UTG with KQs (diamonds), and raise. I kick myself immediately, as I don't want to chase people from the pot with such a good drawing hand, then I realize I'm playing with a bunch OF LOOSE IDIOTS. Five callers, including a maniacal russian who raised blind as he sat down (winning a huge pot when his crap hand rivered a second pair) and who just lost a big pot to me.

Flop comes T94 of diamonds. I bet, two callers. Turn is the 8 of diamonds. I bet, am raised by the crazy player, the other player folds. Crap. For some reason I think he can't raise me with anything but the ace of diamonds, but he's crazy and I still have a straight flush draw. So I call. The river is the six of diamonds. I check. He bets. I call. He shows down Ace Seven off suit. Ace of spades, seven of diamonds for the straight flush.

On the flop he had only two perfect cards to beat me, the 8 and 6 of diamonds. The jack makes me a higher straight flush. According to twodimes, on the flop he was 999-1 to win that hand.

Guess I should have reraised that turn, huh?

Did you kick yourself in the head?

Don't you mean he was 999-1 to LOSE from the flop? If perfect perfect straight flush draws are 99.9% to fill, I'll start playing them more often.

LOL post about bad beats when at the top it says "Dont Post About:" and bad beats are listed in there, lol.

Kinda comical IMO. It's like tempting the gods!

I'm not bemoaning my fate, this is only a bad beat story when I tell it to my wife to explain why I lost $200 last night. I was clearly outplayed by this guy (limit isn't my usual game, duh). I just thought the math was interesting. I'm wondering if you can have a longer draw than that in holdem?

First, you did not "beat" the other "bad bead" story. The odds are the same in both cases. 989 to 1.
Second, that is (knowing the flop and the hole cards of two players) the longest odds you can get (needing to catch the only two cards you can).

I don't see why it isn't 2 in 45 X 1 in 44, or 990 to 1. For running sf you must start with 2 known cards plus the board.
