another going for 2 discussion

There's 11 minutes left in the game between the Vikings and Giants. The Giants are currently driving down by 8. Play by play guy says something like "if the giants score here is it two early to go for 2?" And the color guy says "yeah, there's no reason to panick this early."

Not wishing to turn this thread into another stupid announcers thread is there any reason whatsoever that he might be right? Is being behind by 1 any better than being behind by 2? The only scenario is that if the other team gets a td you would be behind by 9 instead of 8 but if you kick the PAT and that happened you would still have to go for 2 at some point so you might as well try now.

Am I wrong here?

This is an easy conversion attempt.

Seems like an obvious 2-pt attempt.

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah I thought so too, I was just curious if I was missing something. I would probably kick if it was very early in the game, but maybe not even then.

If you're in the first half, or fairly early in the third quarter, most people easily say kick. Some people think you can still just kick if you score with 8-10 minutes left in the game. To me, that late in the game, you have to stop thinking in terms of your opponent getting another TD. The way the Giants D was playing, I think the decision to go for 2 would have been that much easier for Coughlin on that drive.
