hold em etiquette

although it's not cool, is it permisable to bring "cheat sheets" to th casino table?

It's permissible but I wouldn't recommend it. It's going to really hurt your image when people see you studying a table every hand before you call/fold. Also you risk slowing the game down which won't make you any friends.

Be more specific please, what game/limit are you looking to play and what do you mean by "cheat sheets".

Ha! you might be able to work that into something. Make yourself look like a fish, also you could do what he talks about in Poker Nation and bring a chart that has the rankings of the hands(Strait Flush>Quads>Full House etc.)
And then also find some really bad poker advice with some sort of flawed logic behind it thats obviously wrong and start suggesting it to people at the table, something to try, at the very least you might have some fun! Mike Caro talks about similar stuff.

I've never seen it done, but I'm sure that you'll get a lot of comments if you did it. A better alternative would be to memorize the cheat sheet.

I once saw a guy at the B&M with a poker book under his chair. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why in the hell he had a poker book with him at the casino until later on when they announced the next door prize winner

the first time i ever played poker was with a bunch of friends for nickels and dimes and i printed out a sheet of the rankings and brought it with me. throughout the night we had to refer to it a couple times, like when the kid with the straight argued that it beat a flush for example.
i sure have come a long way since then, but there is still so much to learn.

Are you asking because you actually need it?

The first time I ever went to Soaring Eagle (in MI) there was a guy at a 3-6 HE game reading 'Caro's Book of Tells' between hands. I found that to be rather amusing.
