99 Preflop

6-handed 10/20, good game. Hero is button w/ 99. Call, call, fold, hero raises (?).

I know raising is good: I'm ahead of limpers' ranges, I might knock out the blinds, I have position, etc. However, given that the blinds are loose, I'd prefer to play a small pot with 99. My standard line is raise, but I'd like to hear people make a case for limping that's more articulate than just a gut instinct.

Limping in that spot is just bad, IMO.

A case could be made, but the flimsy evidence and poor police procedures would mean this case wouldn't even make it to the jury.

If blinds are loose you get more value, if they're tight you are more likely to win it against just the limpers. Win/win situation.

Sorry if you wanted to hear why limping might be good, I don't think it is here.

"Small pot poker" is a largely bunk theory in limit hold'em. Yes your reverse implied goes up after the flop, yes you may give people the odds to chase correctly... but the equity you just made pre-flop crushes all that stuff, which is actually quite minor if you look at it properly. And the better you play the lower your reverse implied will be.
