No limit vs. pot limit

Crossposted in MTT and PL/NL forum.

Thinking of playing a live pot limit hold'em tournament because it's the cheapest of all events being held, and I'd like to play something. I've only played a few pot limit holdem sit'n'gos on empire to get a feel for it, so I have next to no experience, but plently in no limt. In a tournament structure where stacks for the most part are going to be around 30 big blinds deep on average once a few hours into the tournament is there that much of difference between no limit, and pot limit where pot limit specialists would have a significant advantage ?

Huge difference...

I think Pot Limit is the hardest of all games to master.

One quick example...

What do you do with Aces under the gun? If you "pot" it and make the maximum raise... everyone knows what you have, and since you couldn't raise all that much... you might find yourself taking aces agains 4 or 5 players.

Pot-limit is very difficult.

Furthermore...

Pots in Pot limit vs. no-limit get bigger.

It's been my experience that people like to make continuation bets in NL around 1/3 to 2/3rds the size of the pot.

However, in Pot-limit...everyone loves to just "pot it" and the game seems to play bigger than it should.

oh come on ... you can do this with a wide range of hands UTG, especially if its 6-max ......

So then there's greater implied odds in pot limit?

Of course you can... but we are talking about a full ring tournament...

I'm just saying that pot limit creates bigger pots where people are going to chase more draw with bigger implied odds... and early in given hand... you have limited control over protecting your hand.

Someone on the Full Tilt team, I think it was Lederer, wrote a great article about winning pot-limit without every betting the size of the pot. The theory was to keep pots small and managable... don't price someone into a big draw by continuous "potting"
