How do I get an avatar to show up?
 

Since this is the place for naive questions.... I can't get an avatar to show up with my name.... HELP!!!!

Edit your profile. There is a place to set a URL to an avatar.

i've tried that - i've just never been able to link to a valid site - what kind of site do you need to link to in order to get the picture to show up? (acknowledging that i am a real computer bonehead...)

Where do people get the hosting for these pics?
I honestly can't see many people purchase space from a host just to put a pic up.

A small sample of 5 from the "wookie" thread showed 2 photobucket.com's, one imageshack.com, one comcast.net, and one .edu that I forget. (In Windoze, right click on the image -> properties or similar.)

AFAIK photobucket and imageshack host linkable images for free.

Find the pic you want to use on the interweb. Goto imageshack.us, click the "Transload" link, paste in the url of the image you want to use, click "host".

On the results page find the "direct link to image" url, and paste it into the avatar field in "My home".

Remember to check the radio button for "use avatar"
