Who is Russ Georgiev

I've seen his name come up lots over on gambling.rec.poker and he posts there too.

He seems to advocate cheating, claiming to have made loads by doing it, but also claims to be a very good player offering straight up tutoring. What’s this all about?

Anyone here know of him, is he well known in the poker world?

Re: Who is Russ Georgiev

He's mostly known for his idea that almost all of the top pros and many casino employees are cheats and that you cannot win at the high middle limits without cheating. He's a known cheater who is also at least a very good player and has posted some good strategy advice.

He's mostly regarded as "truth-challenged" at best. The problem is that some of what he says is true, and some of the pros (e.g., Sklansky, Negreanu) have met him and confirmed a bit of what he says. So he's not lying 100% of the time, but what % is correct is up for debate.

There are a lot of posts about Sklansky. Use the Google Groups search (searching for "dsklansky russ" may be the way to go).]

You know, I WAS using the URL code. It's not like I made no effort to avoid long links.

Anyway, I changed it.

Re: Who is Russ Georgiev

This appears to be Russ posting what purports to be a private email from Daniel to Russ calling Doyle, Chip, and Men cheaters. Did Negreanu really say that?

The purported email calls these players cheaters, but supplies no information at all as to how they cheat.

He's a nut. No if's and's or but's. So much of a nut that he sent me some DVDs he made. They are the "Cheating Tapes" or something like that. I tried watching one, but the quality was poor and I couldn't make out what they were saying. However, they do make nice coffee table coasters.

purp, the rest of the posters in this thread are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except what they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, purp, whether they be poker player's or dealer's, are little. In life's great casino, man is a mere chip, a $1 chip, or a 50 cent piece if that's what you toke, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the ability to find cheaters whereever they may lurk.

Yes, purp, there is a Russ Georgiev.

He exists as certainly as the man at your table who just called a string-bet on the tourist. His presence is as pungent as the alcohol on the breath of the man sitting next to you. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Russ Georgiev! It would be as dreary as if there were no purps. There would be no cheating then, no marked cards, no mechanics, no colluders. No computer labs full of monitors, waiting to thwart you online. The external light which which they glow would be extinguished, as if they were but a single server.

Not believe in Russ Georgiev! You may as well not believe in Doyle Brunson! You might get all the security guards in all the casinos to watch for collusion, but even if they did not see any, what would that prove? Nobody sees Russ Georgiev, but that is no sign that there is no Russ Georgiev. The most real things in poker are the things the players do not see. Did you ever see a super-duper royal flush? Completed by the Ace of Sapphires? Of course not, but that does not mean it's not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders of scamming that go on in this world.

You change the setup, inspect the deck, watch your opponents, tweak the random number generator, to find out how you are losing, but there is a veil covering this unseen world which not the wisest player, nor even the unified poker wisdom of Phil Hellmuth and Stu Unger combined, could discern. Only faith, vigilance, and hand signals can push aside that curtain. Is it all real? Ah purp, in all the casinos in all the world, there is nothing else so real and abiding.

No Russ Georgiev? Thank the Internet that he lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, nay, 10 times 10,000 years from now, his words will continue to remind of all that we do not see.

Good luck, and enjoy!
