stupid question but I gotta ask

I try to run my home game by the proper rules of poker. It recently came to light we are doing the blinds wrong when in heads up play. WE had before, always had the dealer put in the BB and the other player the SB. It has been raised that this is backwards, and the dealer should be the SB.
As mentioned, we try to run by the proper rules, like what you would find in a casino. For example the tournrments directors ass rules.
Have we been doing the blinds wrong for standard casino play? Or, is there no stadard for blinds at heads up play.
Thanks in advance

This is actually a pretty common mistake in home games. The Button should be the SB.

Here's the follow up question.

Who gets dealt the first card? BB or the button?

Ok thanks guys, just wanted to make sure before we change things. One or two guys didn't really want to change as they play in other games that have the BB at the dealer.

To add to the confusion, the Dealer is 1st to act before the flop, last to act after the flop.

From http://www.homepokertourney.com/button.htm :

Heads-up play
The small blind is the button and acts first before the flop and last after the flop. The player who does not have the button is dealt the first card.

Its not that big of a deal. I'd bet that most non-serious games do the blinds wrong in heads-up. Doesn't really matter.
