I might venture a raise on the flop, that way I can get a better picture of where I stand in the hand. If he comes OTT of that raise I'll know he has a better hand than me and can easily fold. If he calls I can probably get a free card on the turn, and then re-evaluate on the river (call a small bet).

Fold PF. but as played, you need to re-raise the flop to get some information. He looks like an overpair. The river would be a good time to bluff if you were so inclined.

Whoops, didn't read the entire post. Actually looks like a scared underpair.

Facing the preflop minraise, I treated it as a limp. Don't limp tier 3? Then raise flop for protection (I guess it's pretty vulnerable)?

I think you need some hand definition on the flop, raise the flop, you mighta out flopped a bigger hand and the raise will likely get you a free river card, keeping the pot smaller than it is. A raise to 4 on the flop is what I would like to do, check behind on the turn, and villian might try to push you out thinking you were on a flush draw or have a low pair w/ just A high.
