Health Insurance

I ran a search, but only found a thread on health insurance specifically in NYC.

I am 24 and currently live in VA. I am out of school for the first time in my life and thus am off of my parents' insurance. I will be back in school next fall, and need to find a health insurance plan for the time being. I have no medical problems and believe all I need is major medical coverage. Anyone got any recommendations as to how I should shop around?

Thanks

Just call any insurance broker in the phone book and ask for a policy for where you will be living. Most call the same insurance companies and have very competitive rates. The higher the deductable the lower the monthly premium.

Good luck

great site.

in VA, insurance for major stuff (ie: hospital) is like $50/month with a $2k deductible. You'll probably meet that $2k easily by staying overnight.

it also comes with 1 office visit for annual checkup w/o having to meet the $2k deductible requirement. (if i remember right)

of course if you get sick alot and see lots of doctors and followups, then you're probably better off with regular health insurance, which the above website also provides info on

edit:
I have no affiliation w/that site.

I have Anthem too on an individual policy and pay about $140 a month on a quarterly basis and I am in my early 40s and have a 2K deductible and the best coverage they offered if I remember correctly (best = better than 50/50 payments). At your age it might be less unless you use tobacco. You can get a quote from them as well as other providers online.

If you will have insurance through school shortly then consider temporary insurance. No underwriting required and can be purchased monthly for up to a year. It is issued the day after you apply and only has a few questions to answer. Because it is temporary and covers no preexisting conditions it is the least expensive insurance available.
