AK vs. double-paired board
 

5/10 B&M game. SB is straight-forward, ABC player.

2 early limpers, I raise from the CO with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Only the SB and the 2 limpers call.

Flop comes 10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Checked to me; I bet, SB calls, others fold.

Turn is the 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB checks; I check.

River is the 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB bets, I call.

Final pot: 7.5 BB.

Despite my turn check, the guy probably isn't tricky enough to bet the river w/o a 10 or a 7. Was the pot worth this river call, or should I have dumped?

I bet the turn when the flop bet gets me HU on the turn. Against your opponent you can easily fold to a turn raise, sometimes you'll win the pot and many other times you can check behind on the river and see showdown UI if you don't hit.

In this case with your read it's a pretty easy river fold. Even if you are good 1-in-6.5 times - some of that 15% is going to be a chop with another ace.

Maybe I'm playing too much 6 max these days and calling a lot of river bets with A high, but this seems to be a good place to call with A high.

My above quote was pertaining to the river. I bet this turn most of the time as well for the reason you outlined above.

Well your either beat or he has a flush draw.

Id rather just bet the turn.

A: If he on a draw he pays for the card. He has as many as 15 outs (any pair hitting and the flush) to beat you on the river why give him a freebie.

B: If he has a small pair he might fold to the turn bet.

C: If he has the ten well then your paying the same price to dead dead becase youd fold to a raise.

D: I like to bet, I like to raise. When I was a wimp at this game I got bluffed a lot at. Now because I'm the aggressor I am the one doing the bluffing. Playing wimpy invites people to suckout on you and bluff at you making it decisions difficult.

Ya gotta bet. Shows your not afraid of the ten.

Guess I should have bet the turn, then. . . if anything, to avoid being wimpy (lol).

if you had a read that he's not tricky enough to bet the river w/o a T or 7 why are you calling?

I would have bet the turn and folded to a CR, in my opinion there you may have been able to pick up the pot right there.

If he called the turn he'd be less inclined to bet out on the river so you can check behind for a free SD.
