River wuss?

Game at this time is fairly tight passive to tight aggressive. There are a few gamblers on the table.

Opponent is average player. Nothing special.

What's your move on the river?

All comments appreciated.

Re: River wuss?

River looks like a blocking bet from a lone queen. I raise to 200 or whatever amount he's likely to payoff with.

Results and thoughts...

River thoughts:

Am I giving up a lot by not raising this river?

He's representing a strong, strong hand on the flop and turn. Stars players have a mini-checkraise tendency on the flop. However, on the turn, I was pretty sure he had a very strong hand.

However, his bet on the river was not as strong. To me it meant one of two things:

(a) He's begging for a call or
(b) His hand has weakened somewhat

Let's think about it: He's in the blind. He has basically a random strong hand here. I'm pretty confident he has 2 pair or a set by the turn. If the pairing of the 10s helped him, he's crushed me and lured me into a false sense of security with a small bet. If the pairing of 10s counterfeited him, would he be willing to pay off a raise? Probably not. Extra reinforcement: He's a Stars player, not an average fish.

Still I have to ask whether raising has value here. If he goes over the top of me, I'll puke and have to fold. But is he fishy enough to call a 2nd best hand? Am I giving up value. Arg, the agony.

I just called, and he showed me a boat. Whew. Right move...this time.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Garland

why do you limp and bet out 2/3ish pot on a gutshot flop

AJs (and KQs) are the two borderline hands I'll play from that position, and in most games I play, I open-limp with all hands UTG (or UTG+1).
