News from Foxwoods

Un-freakin-believable. We used to get around 50 players for the NLH tourney on Tuesday nights. Then it started being the question each night would we break 100 (because they pay 2 tables if over 100). Then for a while we were getting 140 or so. Last night, they sold out at 200!!

They've modified the structure, and there are no longer antes. They also changed the payout, as they want to keep first prize below $5000. Last night the payouts were something like $4800 to first, $4000 to second, and $3200 to third, going down through 18 players. Over $20,000 in the prize pool.

And the new crop of players are, generally speaking, not champions, so the field is even sweeter than before. Tougher to wade through it, but very weak.

How much is the buy-in? *NM*

$35 buyin = T200
Unlimited rebuys 1st 3 rounds. $20 = T200
One Double Add-On @ rebuy time (regardless of stack size) $40 = T400
If below T200 @ break, max $80 for T800?? (Not exactly sure on this one; it might be that U have to be tapped out to take max rebuy/add-on? Does anyone remember?)

Greg How many chips do they start you with? I played there once (tuesday night) and to the best of my recollection they start you with only $400. in chips.. Also was curious as to how your trip to Vegas for the WSOP went..Have you posted anything about it on the forum?

If you are down to 0 you can do a double rebuy for $40 and a double add on for $40 and get a total of 800 chips. If you have between 1 and 200, you can only get a single rebuy and a double add on. If you have over 200 chips you can only get the double add on. Greg, I agree with you, this tourney is absolutely amazing now for a weekly local tourney. Total prize pool of $20,000 blows my mind. Now if I could only make my AA hold up against AJ(he hit a J on the flop and spiked another on the river) I might get a shot at the milk and honey!!

Casino San Pablo has a saturday tourney that is identical, except its a $10+5 buyin and $10 rebuys. 1st is usually just under $600 & there are 30-50 players currently.

Nice format, I like it.

Greg,

I have been in the NL tourney at Foxwoods twice, coming in 12th once and the other time busted out early with against AA with KK. I'm thinking of coming down from Boston more often on Tuesdays now that I'm home for the summer and was wondering if you rebuy a lot? Do you play super aggressive in the beginning trying to build a stack, or do you take advantage of those doing so? What are anyone's strategies for such tournaments? See you there next Tuesday...

Play like it was cash. Make whatever play will give you the highest EV in terms of chips. Rebuy whenever you qualify for it, including before the first hand is dealt. Take the double add-on no matter how many chips you have.

The only time I would ever play sub-optimally, is if the optimal play would leave me with slightly more than T200, and a worse play would put me at T200 or slightly below, thus allowing me to rebuy. I will give up a couple of dollars in equity on a given hand in order to rebuy when taking that rebuy gives me more extra equity.

Make sure you\'re there early!!

200 is pretty clearly going to be the cap, and I believe they had to turn a few people away last time. I arrived early at 6:30 and had to wait in line behind 80 or so people to sign up. 5x longer than any line I've ever seen at Foxwoods, including the 500 player events during their major tourneys.
