Two extra bets

This struck me as an example of where a thinking player's edge over a weaker one is easier than usual to quantify.

2-4 stud, head up play, we arrive at the river with the following hands:

opp: (xx)TdQhAhKh(x)

me: (9s8s)Ks8hAsQs(Th)

He bets, I realize he has just one heart that beats me, the J. If he has the 9h, he loses unless he also has the 8.

So I raise, he three bets. I give him the J and just call -- probably should have capped since he can't five bet online.

He has low hearts and my hand is good. Obviously, he didn't think about what my raise was likely to mean given our boards and coming second best was more expensive than it should have been as a result.

This also strikes me as a situation where you didn't fully capitalize on the edge. Cap that [censored], but you know that.

Yeah, should have capped -- but I was thinking the situation was clear enough that he should have the jack to three bet.

Would you still four bet if it were live, and he could five bet?

I don't know I have not played much live stud and never had a similar situation. I think probably not against a good player since he can easily tell if he beats you or not by your board but against a bad player then yes.

I had four jacks, three hidden, against a tight old rock in a Foxwoods $5-10 game awhile back. On the river I checked, he bet, I checkraised, he three bet, I four bet and when he five bet I might as well have folded. He showed me a 3-7 straight flush.
